Unfortunatelythere's currently no way to automatically detect and delete duplicate photos. The only thing you can do is to remove them manually from your account. Either via the Dropbox or Carousel website or via the Dropbox desktop application.

1) Go to www.carousel.com (please log into your account if you haven't already)

2) Navigate to the item that appears to be duplicated

3) Click on the little check mark icon overlying the thumbnail of the duplicate (which you can find on the top right of each thumbnail)

4) Click on the three dots icon on the top right of the screen and choose "Show in folder"

5) Note the location of this file in your Dropbox

6) Repeat steps 3 to 5 for another instance of the item that appears to be duplicated

7) Delete the redundant copies from their location

Hey if you able to access some other third party tools can use duplicate photos fixer app easily available on mac app store also. just run it and add your drop box folder in the software its automatically scan all duplicate photos and mark them to delete as per your choice you can delete them if found duplicates click here for delete duplicate photos

Dropbox has become ubiquitous digital drawer of the netizens of the planet. The 8-step guide to remove the duplicates is tedious and ineffective. It's not an impossible job to equip Carousel (or Dropbox interface) with a tool to find and eradicate duplicates. Or point users to install third party tools to do this mundane job, if such utilities are indeed available. May it happen. Amen.

Opting to select duplicates, rather than simply tapping the Merge buttons, gives you access to some extra features as well: Tap on the three dots in the bottom right corner (with one or more pairs selected) and you have the option to delete both copies of the image, copy them somewhere else, add them to an album, and adjust the metadata associated with them (like the date and time they were taken).

With its AI-powered tool, you can find and delete all duplicate and similar photos. Just a few minutes, and your iPhone is a perfectionist's dream. And yeah, it works on your iPad too.

When it comes to a manual approach, one of the first things you can do to remove duplicate photos on iPhone is to tap into Duplicates. How does it work? Photos identifies duplicate photos and videos in your photo library and puts them into the Duplicates album. You can then merge them to keep one version in high quality. And you can use Duplicates to easily remove duplicate photos. Here's how to do that:

HDR is a camera effect for your photos. It stands for High Dynamic Range, which, in simplest terms, means that when you take a picture, the camera is taking multiple images and combining them into one photo. This gives your picture a sharper, higher contrast.

Another option you have is to turn off the setting to Keep Normal Photo altogether. That way, once you take an HDR picture, it only keeps a single copy. But you can only do that on iPhone X and earlier models:

While the Photos app may not have the breadth of editing capabilities, it is still a powerful tool. And when you edit in the Photos app, it saves over the original by default to avoid the creation of duplicates.

Though Digikam provides a nice feature of finding duplicate photos, it does not, for what I can see, make it easy to delete duplicates and keep original photos. I hope that the function is somewhere there, but I could not find it.

I have found it easy to keep "originals" (reference images) by sorting them so that the the reference images are last. Then I can select just the duplicates. The steps are laid out in this "It's Foss" article How to Find and Remove Duplicate Photos in Linux

Now, go to the file menu -> View -> Sort Items and select By Similarity. This will put all the referenced images at the bottom. You can select all the images in the right sidebar that are NOT labelled as duplicate and press the delete button.

Use a dedicated duplicate photo cleaner tool or software (many are available for both desktop and mobile platforms) to scan your entire photo library and identify duplicate images. These tools will usually compare file hashes, metadata, or visual similarities to detect duplicates.

Apple introduced its "duplicate detection" feature in 2022 and it works just as its name suggests. The tool uses on-device AI to identify identical images and aggregate them in an easy-to-find album in the Photos app. Apple says the iPhone classifies duplicates not only as exact copies, but also as photos that appear to be the same but have unique resolutions, file formats, or other slight differences.

3. Scroll down to the Utilities section and tap Duplicates. This is where you can view all the duplicate photos on your iPhone and delete them, either individually or at once.

6. If you want to delete duplicates individually, scroll up and tap Merge on your chosen selection of duplicate images. Then tap Merge [number] Copies to delete duplicates. Go down the line and repeat this step for all the identical photos you want to delete.

1 - The database function in the catalog tries to insure no duplicates can be registered/indexed if you try to 'import' them. That's a basic programming rule for managing databases. So, when you want to 'import' files in the catalog, there is a check for duplicates based on two criteria (among others): file size in kilobytes and date taken of the photo. Such duplicates won't be imported, they are ignored.

2 - Before getting the files in the catalog, the photos must come from your camera, your scans, your web browsing or any other source. That's the main problem for duplicates on your computer. There are many possibilities to get duplicates in that 'downloading' phase. The most current complaint is when you are 'importing' (downloading) files from a camera card. The downloader module has the option to import only new files. The files on the card are compared to the ones in the current catalog for size and date, and only new ones should be imported. It seems the above criteria don't insure 100% safety. It may be because of downloader options like red eye correction changing the size or similar traps. It has not been very clear why there was a number of problems on older Macs...

If you find pictures which are duplicates (same size/date) in your catalog (even with different filenames), you'll have to search for differences in the files properties, particularly in which 'import batch' they were imported.

Well that makes a good match for your question. Had you bothered to scroll down a couple of posts, you would find two very specific How To solutions to the original poster's problem. If those responses don't satisfy you, how about telling us exactly what your problem is (other than your age and lack of patience).

I suggest you start a new thread since you have posted in the middle of this 3 year old one. Unfortunately, with the way this forum is set up, your post is buried and you will likely get a lot older and more impatient before it is seen again.

I did not berate anyone, take the time to read the entire discussion. I am always trying to be positive and help even in difficult situations. That can require spending a lot of time to understand the particular issue, explain what can be explained and suggest troubleshooting steps and workarounds. Best to start a new discussion with your particular situation which is only one of the multiple duplicate issues in other discussions.

Sorry, but this did not work for me. I am using Elements v9 loaded on W10 and my FIND tab does no have "By Visual Searches", the neares thing is "By Visual Similarity with Selected Photos or Videos". Can I get help to delete duplicates for Elements 9 Organizer?

I have several Canon camera with wifi. I shoot RAW+Jpeg (sometimes just jpeg for burst photos) and then transfer the jpegs to the phone using wifi. I also take photos directly with the phone. When I copy the photos from the camera card and phone to my hard drive, I now have three copies of many photos. I only want to keep the RAW file from the camera, but keep phone shot jpegs. I have a Mac What is the best way to do this?

I can dedupe the RAW+Jpeg using a script because they have the same filename and just a different extension, but there is no good way I've found to dedupe the photos transferred from camera to phone without deleting the photos taken directly on the phone. I've tried several duplicate photo apps from the app store, but none work with RAW and none identify the camera jpeg and jpeg transferred to the phone as duplicate even though they are the exact same photo.

WhatsApp and other communication apps have lots of content for doomscrolling on mobile tablets and phones. It's common to download the same pictures multiple times from them. But editing and sharing are tricky because you're dealing with mixed-up copies. If you aren't careful, you might accidentally delete the wrong ones. You'll have to browse and select the files for deletion one by one to avoid mistakes.

Wiping the extra photo copies from your file manager or gallery app is quicker. Plus, it avoids unnecessary costs when Google Photos is your main photo management app. It shares the 15GB storage space across Photos, Drive, Gmail, and other applications. Exceed this limit, and you'll pay for additional storage. Here's a detailed tutorial on how to remove unwanted duplicate photos.

Google Photos is your device's cloud-based storage service. It provides smart organization, editing tools, and facial recognition, among other features. It lacks a built-in feature for removing duplicate files, but there's a tool that removes copies you backed up. This way, you have more room to save new media on the device. If you haven't saved any images in the cloud, you won't see the option to free up space.
