Athens, Georgia the premier bicycling community in the United States!*

Dear AthensGaBicycling riders,

The latest afternoon/evening forecast is that 6:00pm is a great time to go on a ride today!  With three ride choices:

Monday

  • 6:00pm Antelope=17-20mph from downtown at the old Sunshine Cycles location on the corner of Pulaski and Washington. New for 2015, three departure locations: please see the Ride Calendar for alternate ride departure information. This ride continues to build with a solid group of riders and one of the most fun sprints in Athens. If you have not lately joined the group, join them tonight!

  • 6:00pm Gazelle/Antelope=15-17mph and 17-20mph from 4794 Fairplay Rd, Bostwick, Ga This ride is designed to allow everyone to leave together and then after about the halfway point, people can speed-up or continue at Gazelle speed. If you have not given the ride a try, tonight would be the perfect day. Bostwick is only minutes from Watkinsville and is closer than you think, and you start away from any traffic. Come join the fun!

  • 6:00pm Cheetah=20+mph from Athens Orthopedic Clinic's SPARC (Sports Performance & Rehabilitation Center), 1765 Old West Broad Building 3 Athens, Ga; The ride is just fast enough to keep your heart pumping but slow enough to allow you to climb without going so far into the red zone that you may not recover before the peloton is in the distance.

After many questionable riding weekends, this Saturday now looks like perfect weather for a spring ride. Remember, pick your ride speed, show-up ready to roll and gave a great ride!

Saturday:

  • 10:00am Gazelle from Pittard Park, Winterville

  • 10:00am Antelope=17-20mph from behind the Watkinsville Courthouse.

  • 10:00am Cheetah=20+mph from The Hub

Good riding!

Joe

AGB Tip of the Week:

We have many people visiting Athens or new to riding in the Athens community. Just say, “hello” to make them feel welcome. Remember, the more people, who like the group will lead to a bigger peloton; a bigger peloton means more people pulling at the front, which of course means more drafting for you! So let’s help the peloton and you, and make new riders feel welcome!

For details on all the group rides, please visit the Ride Calendar:
