AthensGaBicycling.com Newsletter
Dear AthensGaBicycling riders,
Congratulations to everyone that participated in the Antelope World Cup vs 3. Special shout out to this season’s champions: DanH and ValoreeJ. On another positive note and what the lead Antelope, SteveK, was most proud, “the entire season without an accident!” A huge thank you to Steve for creating and leading the World Cup and putting into place and managing the rides that were fun and without incidents! On one other note about Steve, though he is on a sabbatical from riding at an undisclosed location, he is still able to receive your emails of thanks: smk...@gmail.com
Thinking of the Antelope Wednesday rides, we also would like to give thanks to past riding legends, who you may not know: SteveB and KarenT. They worked together to post and email rides each week without fail for Wednesday night, Saturday and Sunday. Many lasting friendships were created from these rides and without their leadership the Athens riding community would not be what it is today. In fact, you may not have met your cycling friends if not for their efforts. The next time you have a beer with your riding buddies, you may want to give a toast to Steve and Karen, who were instrumental in building friendships and the Athens riding community.
With
a long holiday weekend approaching, we will have plenty of riding opportunities
this weekend, including the return of the Elk/Gazelle Athens rides on Saturday
and Sunday after many weekends off the calendar.
On an interesting note, the last time that GeorgiaJ led a ride the overflow parking overflowed, which may be the reason that this Sunday her ride begins at Athens Tech, which has more parking spaces. Come early to ensure a space close to the ride start, or just ride your bike over which is only a few miles from downtown or the eastside of Athens.
Finally, a mountain ride is scheduled for Memorial Day, leaving at 7:00am next Monday, so plan now to join what may be the largest mountain ride of the season, as many new people have already committed to making the fun journey into the Georgia mountains!
Happy cycling,
Joe

Dear AthensGaBicycling riders,
A great long weekend of riding last week with record attendance turnouts for the Wednesday Antelope from Watkinsville courthouse, Thursday Gazelle from the eastside at Whit Davis Elementary, Saturday Antelope from the Watkinville courthouse, Saturday Elk/Gazelle from the Watkinsville courthouse and the Memorial day mountain ride. Thanks to all of you who rode and participated in these record-setting rides!
Important: from our friend JohnD, “Alert to everyone who rides on Cooper Farm Rd. that the extremely aggressive dog at the hill top was out lose again this morning [Monday, May 28].” John talked with the owner and she argued "bikers don't belong on these roads" after he explained the taxes we pay, state biking and highway laws and the Jackson county leash law all fly in the face of her ill informed belief, she then apologized but did not state she would rechain the dog. With this in mind, please be alert and use caution when passing through Cooper Farm Rd. until this is resolved.
Let’s keep the group riding momentum going this week. Pick a ride, call a friend, who you have not seen lately and join the fun!
Happy cycling,
Joe
