Dear AthensGaBicycling riders,
Happy Independence Day! Wednesday as we all know is 4th of July! As with every 4th of July there is a Special Elk/Gazelle 4th of July celebration ride. The ride this year leaves from Winterville’s Pittard Park at 8:30am. Since most of the Wednesday evening rides are cancelled, this is a great way to take a ride before the heat and fireworks at night.
Also, as many of you know, the Tour de France has started. If you are wondering where it is, “Versus” is now “NBC Sports” so on Charter Communications it should be on channel 82 or on AT&T U-verse channel 1640; of course check your local listing for NBC Sports for the exact channel and times of coverage for the Tour each day.
A few other rides have been added or changed this week, so please see the ride calendar.
One last note, the heat continues, so please stay hydrated!
Happy cycling,
Joe

Dear AthensGaBicycling riders,
Great news the 100+ degree temperatures are finally leaving
the Athens area. Also, many people who
have been vacationing are back in Athens.
With these points in mind, many wonderful group rides await this
week. Please see the ride calendar to pick a ride.
Also, special recognition goes to JimS, TimL and TylerP. They recently rode for fun to St. Petersburg, Florida, 435 miles away, but rode 700 miles, including additional out-of-the-way excursions before their vacation ended. They arrived in St. Petersburg just four days after departure. If you would like to congratulate each of them or hear about their adventures, you may be able to see them on one of the rides they regularly attend: JimS on the Monday Bostwick 6:00pm ride or TylerP on the Monday Sunshine 6:15pm ride. On behalf of all Athens cyclists, “Great job!”
On a mountain ride stage note, thanks to GeorgiaJ, RikO,
Dennis and JimW, for forming the initial mountain ride peloton (group)
that in each of the last two weekends attracted large groups of Athens cyclists
on a journey to and through the Georgia mountains. Not only did they battle the mountain grades,
but in addition endured 100+ degree weather on each mountain ride!
Happy cycling,
Joe
