Athens, Georgia the premier bicycling community in the United States!*
Dear AthensGaBicycling riders,
The bike races are back this Saturday. For those new to Athens this is one of the signature bicycle races of the year for cyclists, who come from all over the U.S and World to compete in the largest criterium of the cycling season. Please visit http://www.athenstwilight.com/ for all the activities for this Friday and Saturday. Also, for veteran spectators, please remember the race course has changed this year, so you may need to scout out a new viewing location. Here is a link to the new (this year) route: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/597712218
One other change is this year’s mountain bike criterium race, will once again feature actual mountain bikes and mountain bike gearing, since all the bikes must be set-up the same as when they participate in the the mountain bike time trials at Trail Creek Park earlier in the day. Tires may be swapped to slicks, but must be at least 1.5 inches wide; otherwise the bikes must remain the same.
As of this writing, the weather looks good for the remainder of the week for all the group rides. Even Saturday looks promising if referencing Accuweather.com. Please see the ride calendar for all the group rides this week: Ride Calendar
Good riding!

AGB Tip of the Week:
How to tell if a spoke has broken: If you are riding along and all of a sudden you hear a “ping;” or you are riding and you feel as if your bike feels unstable or feels as if you are in a rut in the road; or your bike wheel is all of a sudden hitting the brake pads; or if you hear a constant light sound with each revolution of the wheel, then you have probably broken a spoke. The good news is that all the local bike shops carry spokes and can easily replace your spoke and retrue you wheel. If you replace the spoke yourself, you will need a truing stand and the expertise of truing a wheel. Also, correctly truing (and dishing) a wheel is one of the most difficult repairs on a bicycle. Once again we are lucky to have all the hills in Athens, the primary place spokes break, so all the bike shops have plenty of skill in correctly replacing spokes.
