Athens, Georgia the premier bicycling community in the United States!*

Hello AthensGaBicycling riders,

The summer is the perfect time for road work. With that in mind here are three roads that are repaved for our riding pleasure;

  1. Most importantly, Salem Road from Farmington has been repaved, eliminating the extremely bumpy part of the road from Farmington to the Greshamville Mall (highway 278). (Of course, now parts of Colham ferry have gravel on them as they are in the process of further repair.)

  2. Wolskin Road in east Athens toward Crawford has been repaved, which helps the Sunday Whit Davis Gazelle ride, when it does the Crawford loop and helps the Thursday Cheetah Georgia Cycle Sport Ride. (The northbound lane is complete without road markings and the southbound lane has one layer to go.)

  3. Wolfpen Gap Road from Suches, Ga to Highway 129/19 near the entrance of Vogle State Park has been repaved. (A second layer of asphalt is half complete on the northbound lane with a yellow line drawn down the middle of the road.)

Also, the polar vortex is expected to bring cooler weather for all the group rides this week. If you have been waiting for a cooler ride, this is the week to look at the ride calendar and choose your favorite ride.

AGB Tip of the Week:

Another good reason to ride with a group: While climbing up the Georgia mountains on your bike, a bear sees the group, and you have analyzed that the other riders may be faster than you, just make a quick u-turn back down the mountain.

Good riding!

Joe
