Athens, Georgia the premier bicycling community in the United States!*
Dear AthensGaBicycling riders,
Wednesday, the most beautiful day of the year and it lands tomorrow! With an AccuWeather Real Feel forecast of a high of 65°! Two great rides to choose from, if you have the afternoon off from work, or if you are not feeling too well and “need to take the afternoon off”:
Wednesday rides:
Elk 13-15mph @ 1:00pm from Watkinsville Courthouse
Antelope 17-20mph @ 2:00pm from Watkinsville Courthouse
Remember, we only have four Wednesday afternoon rides left on the schedule before the Evening rides begin March 8 through March 14, Athens Bike Week. This of course means that you have four weeks to get into shape for the evening rides starts. Of course, you can always start on an easier ride and work your way back to the ride you prefer. In fact, you may enjoy the easier ride so much, you can just reset your goals to always ride a slower ride.
On a more somber note, this Saturday brings the final WBL ride of the season from The Hub in Five Points. Yes, the grand Finale is here. If you have not ridden a WBL this season, this is your last chance. The good news is that you should have a 33mph tailwind for part of the ride. Yes, tailwind! (We choose to focus on the positive and will not be commenting on crosswinds or headwinds.) Actually, even if you ride the Antelope on Saturday from the Watkinsville Courthouse, you will receive the 33mph tailwind!
Saturday rides:
Antelope 17-20mph @ 10:00am from Watkinsville Courthouse. Since, part of the ride will have a tailwind and people have already committed to showing-up, there is a 28-mile ride option (The Wednesday Evening Antelope Ride route) to encourage everyone to take advantage of the tailwind.
The Winter Bike League (WBL) Grand Finale: Cheetah 20+mph @ 10:00am (window open) from The Hub in Five Points. This is it, one last ride or you will need to wait until next winter for the pride associated with riding with the WBL!
On one final note, we have the newest ride added to the Ride Calendar on Tuesday afternoons!:
Tuesday rides:
Elk Ride @ 1:00pm from Oconee Heights Baptist Church. Come join the group as they work on speed and endurance. Typically 20-30 miles at 13 to 15mph. All riders welcome and encouraged to ride, especially slower riders, who are trying to get their legs and lungs in shape.
Good riding!
Joe
AGB Tip of the Week:
Layers are great when riding in colder weather or when ordering cake. Either way, you will be much happier with more layers and have a much warmer feeling inside.
