Dear Athens Cyclists,

Work hard, play hard! That's what they say.

Do you ever get to mid-March and wish your fitness was a couple of notches higher?
Lonnie and I are organizing a spring training week March 12-16th. We are planning a series of long back to back training rides, including alternating gravel and road rides. These rides are for people looking to significantly boost their fitness level in a short period of time. At the same time, they are no-drop rides. The pace will be mostly easy to moderate with occasional harder efforts. Start times will typically be 2 pm (for the warmer part of the day) but may be earlier.

We need interested participants to respond with the rides they are interested in so we know who wants to go on what ride. A lack of responses may result in the ride being cancelled.

Tentative plan (may be adjusted pending weather)

1. Sunday 3/12 - Lake Hope/ Zaleski SF gravel loop (gravel + road) 50 miles, 4-5 hours

2. Monday 3/13 - Hocking Hills Road Ride (not always smooth, but doable on a road bike) 60 miles, 5 hours

3. Tuesday 3/14 - rest or easy recovery ride 25 miles, 1-2 hours, on your own or with others

4. Wednesday 3/15 - Sciota trail  (gravel + road) 60 miles, 5 hours

5. Thursday 3/16 - Hockingport loop (aka Clev 65) or Rim of the World (road) 65+ miles, 4-5 hours

Not everyone needs to do every ride. You can pick and choose. But we need to know if you plan to join a given ride.
The final schedule will be sent in a couple of days along with more details.

We hope that you can join us for one or more of these rides. Please let us know which rides you want to go on.

Thanks,
Art and Lonnie

Art,

This is a great idea. I can't make any rides this coming week, but I look forward to maybe participating in next year's spring training camp.

Dear Athens Cyclists,

Some adjustment of the 'spring' training camp plan due to the inclement weather on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
Following is the modification of the plan:

1. Sunday 3/12 - ride canceled due to uncooperative weather

2. Monday 3/13 - ride canceled due to uncooperative weather

3. Tuesday 3/14 - ride most likely canceled unless the outlook changes

4. Wednesday 3/15 - Sciota Trail State Park gravel ride, (gravel + road) 50 miles, 5 hours

5. Thursday 3/16 - Hocking Hills road ride (not always smooth, but doable on a road bike) 60 miles, 5 hours

Assuming the weather outlook does not change, details of the rides to be sent later.

Dear Athens Cyclists,

Following is the current (new) spring training camp plan:

1. Wednesday 3/15, ~ 50 mile Sciota Trail State Park gravel ride, (gravel + road) 50 miles, 5 hours, co-led by Art & Lonnie with Judy (Sunshine) Stutes
Lonnie and I are departing from Peden for Scioto Trail State Park by car at 11:30 am today. I am not aware of any others going on this ride.

2. Thursday 3/16, ~ 50-60 mile Hocking Hills road ride (not always smooth, but doable on a road bike) 60 miles, 5 hours, co-led by Lonnie & Art with Joe Ipacs
So far Marco Deshaies and Andy Warner plan to join us.
We will depart Peden at 10:00 am to drive up to Clear Creek Metro Park Parking Lot, at the intersection of Clear Creek Rd and Starner Rd. Everyone should have their own car transportation available to drive up there. The tentative wheels down start time is 11:00 am. Or you can meet us at the Clear Creek Metro Park if you're not coming from Athens. But let me know you are coming definitely.

3. Saturday 3/18,  ~50 mile Lake Hope area gravel ride, co-led by Charlie & Lonnie, route and time not yet confirmed, TBD

4. Sunday 3/19, ~65 mile local area road ride, tentatively the Hockingport Loop (aka 'Clev 65'), co-led by Lonnie and Art, starting from Peden, departure time TBD

Thanks for your attention. Please confirm your intention to join any of these rides.

Best,
Art and Lonnie

Dear Athens Cyclists,

Plan to arrive at Peden stadium tomorrow morning by 10:30 am, for a no-later than 10:45 am departure. It's about a 45 min drive to get to Clear Creek Metro Park from Athens. You can also meet us there at 11:30 am. We plan to have wheels down as early as 11:45 am for the approximately 3-4 hour ride.

Thanks!
Art & Lonnie

Dear Athens Cyclists,

Unfortunately, the remaining 2 "Spring" training rides set for Saturday 3/18 and Sunday 3/19 are cancelled since the weather will be very harsh with a Real Feel of 30 degrees as the high.

Luckily we had 2 good days this week, but that looks like all we're going to get at this point.

But, it looks like the temps are about to take a turn up after Sunday. Yay for that!
