i created this picture last night. our name evokes a sense of
crimefighting (or fighting the commercial system) in my mind and i
planned to have a masked or caped, beer-bellyed monk, but the picture
turned out otherwise. the arm raising a mash paddle is reminiscent of
revolutionary struggle, the monk a brewing symbol and the beer is a
beer. i wante to incorporate "alez", but found no place, we could
double ring the image and put our name inside that like many logos you
see or i'd be happy to place the name somewhere is the picture. i
could also possibly change his expression or props, this may be hard
becasue i'm not much of an artist. any thoughts would be great.

the picture is actually below the discussions on the forum in the
files section (where bruce put the original logo), sorry i couldn't
put it on this post.

Hi Marc,

Thank you for your artistic efforts and the back-story for your logo
idea.

While I know there is at least one more logo underway, I will offer
the following comments on your design:

I like the idea of the monk, the paddle, and the raised glass. I
don't know that others besides us will easily relate to the reasons
these items are in your design (but I also don't know that "that's" a
big deal). I do think ALEZ needs to be in there -- and more
specifically, that the entire spelled-out name should be there in some
capacity. I think perhaps the simplest way to handle that (and I'm
not an artist either, but have worked with many in my 'past life') is
to incorporate a ribbon underneath the pic that has "Athens League
of ..." written into the ribbon, and then also I would suggest
incorporating "ALEZ" somewhere else on our monk (to effectively
communicate the name of the group and that ALEZ is short for our full
name).

I think if your monk faced forward -- still holding out the paddle and
raised mug -- you could incorporate the "ribbon" (or other similar
"bordering" effect containing the full name) beneath him, and also
perhaps put a medallion-like object on the monk (something similar to
the "sommelier's cup", if you're familiar with that), and that you
could put ALEZ in that medallion (it would need to be large enough to
see, though). Another option is that ALEZ could go on the mug.

Also, don't sell yourself short on your artistic abilities. I think
you worked in an extraordinary amount of detail and that your drawing
is both recognizable and reflective of your goal. That's not an easy
task.

Thanks much!!

Hi everybody. I played with a logo picture this morning... it's
actually a modification of one of my beer labels, but I thought it
invoked the "crime fighter" tone of the club name... It's posted in
the same place as Marc's drawing.

I like the katana-mash paddles.

I'm no artist, but I had this idea of like a three-musketeer kinda
thing, only instead of rapiers they hold mash paddles, and above them
is a banner depicting our club name. Just a thought...

Very nice. Aside from obvious tweaks such as coloring, it looks pretty
got-danged finished.

Another excellent logo.  I like the double cannon image ... you know it's an Athens landmark if you've been to Athens.
