Night Train to Moonville Social Bicycle Ride - 6:00 PM Friday Oct. 27, 2023

Link to ride info on the ABC website: https://athensbicycleclub.org/night-train-to-moonville-social-bicycle-ride/

Come on out for a spooky good time on the 2nd ever Night Train to Moonville Social Bicycle Ride at 6PM on Friday October 27, 2023. This ride will start before sunset but the return leg will be in the dark. Lights and a helmet are required.

Join us for an 18-mile spooky social ride (no drop so the ghosts won't get you) from Mineral to Zaleski and back on the Moonville Rail Trail. We'll convene at 6PM in order to start with some daylight left so we can enjoy the scenery, and return in the dark-- the perfect time to check for ghosts at Moonville Tunnel and King Hollow Tunnel. Lights and helmets are required, bring your own snacks and water. Costumes optional but encouraged!

Ride Start and Parking Info

The ride will start in Mineral, Ohio. There is a small parking area near the trailhead and across the street. Parking will be limited right at the trailhead, but there is a side alley next to the trailhead for additional parking as needed. Do not park in the Church parking lot, it is now signed No Parking.

Trail Surface

The surface of the rail trail is a nice smooth stone dust surface for the first 4 miles from Mineral through the 2 tunnels. There will be a 1 mile section each way on a gravel road with a couple small hills (detour around the rail trail section that still has two bridges out). For the final 4 miles to Zaleski, the trail surface has recently been improved with an application of stone dust, so if you've ridden that section in the past, you'll find the bumpiest parts will be much smoother. Recommend at a minimum riding a gravel bike, cross bike, or hybrid (definitely not a road bike), but a bike with a front suspension like a dual sport or mountain bike is a good idea if you want to smooth out some of those bumps.
