Hi Christopher,
now that python 2 is End Of life, is there any chance of an update to python 3?
I'm afraid that AthenaCL will become abandonware soon.

thanks,
Menno

Hi Menno.

I am afraid I do not have time or resources to work on AthenaCL presently. If you our someone else would like to take on maintenance, I would be happy to help set that up.

Thanks, Menno!

I’m hoping so too.
So far, I have kept an old MacBook Pro especially for working with athenaCL…

Best wishes,
Jaap Blonk.

Hi Jaap,

i was googling some more and found a fork of the AthenaCL program: https://github.com/ales-tsurko/athenaCL
I was able to run this version of AthenaCL with python3, but will need to spend more time to test it. It seems that the person that is now taking care of the program is open for suggestions and error reports, so that is a good thing!

As a side note, if you are the Jaap Blonk i think you are i'd like to say to i am a fan of your work; the group Filiaal but also your later work.
If you like, you can check out some work of mine making use of AthenaCL, with a poet called BartFM. The piece is called 'Geviste'. https://soundcloud.com/tjingboem
(The other pieces on the same site are much older, late 80s, working with tapedecks)

greetings,
Menno

Hi Christopher,

like i reported in my last reply to Jaap, there seems to be someone, named Ales Tsurko, who is now taking care of the program.

I am a Csound user, and do use CMask and nGen but was thinking about checking out AthenaCL once again as it has its own qualities.
I do so within a program called Blue by Steven Yi (https://blue.kunstmusik.com/) where the score generation can be done from within the program using the command line.
In the Blue Wiki page i wrote some articles on this:   https://github.com/kunstmusik/blue/wiki/Blue's-athenaCL

I will test the python 3 version from Ales some more, and when all goes well i am even tempted to ask Ales for a global seed- something that i always wanted in AthenaCL :)
you never know...

Thanks for your answer, thanks for the program, good luck,
Menno Knevel

Hallo Menno,

Mooie sounds in “Geviste”.

Here to stay zou ik zeggen :)

groet,
Menno

Hoi Menno,

Groet,
Jaap.

I have been using the Python3 fork for a few days now, and it works quite well. There are some quirks  to work out, but am glad AthenaCL is back in business...

bye, greetings, Menno

Bedankt, Menno.

Groet,
Jaap.
