I posted this to Project Audience last week and thought it relevant
here too:

I just by chance noticed Fusion Ticket http://www.fusionticket.org
which is an existing open source ticketing solution up to Beta version
6 and seems relatively mature with documentation, instructional
videos, Wiki, Development Roadmap etc.

"What is Fusion Ticket?
Fusion Ticket is an Open Source Box Office and Ticketing Solution.

The aim is to create a usable and complete box office solution aimed
at charities and small venues that don't have the extreme budget or
the need for a full box office solution, whilst maintaining full
functionality and large customisabilty and feature set.

Who is it for?
Any one really. But the main aim is for small charities and theater
groups. For the most part its unrealistic for these small
organizations to take the hit of using a professional ticket sales
companies, who take a set up fee and commission of each ticket sold.

The software is used regularly by all types of people just look at our
links page.

Although there is no restrictions on who can use it, we don't
recommend it for really big events (stadium size) at this time.
Allthough in the future we are confident we will be expanding the
software to make it easier to manage."

As far as I can see, it seems to be an initiative of individuals.

"About us How Fusion Ticket was born
The Fusion Ticket Project was initiated in early 2007 by Christopher
Jenkins from PHP MyTicket. Originally Fusion Ticket wasn't even
considered, It was just a bi-product of upgrades made by Chris Jenkins
for a charity's online ticket sales.

From early 2008 the project was formed into Fusion Ticket, dropping
the release from phpMyTicket Release Candidate 2 to Fusion Ticket Beta
3 which was a very updated version of RC2.

In spring 2008 Niels v/d Spek joined Chris as developer and worked on
the next beta release, by cleaning up the shop and admin section, and
fixed many remaining bugs. Together with Lou Fives and Martin Martinez
the Beta4 was released in August 2008.

With the joining of Lou Fives we got a nice formatted documentation
working. He is also our P.R. person and main tester of Fusion Ticket.

After releasing Beta4 we decided to step to a more MVC kernel and
created the Fazant project. In late December it was clear that we
needed many man hours before we were ready to release it to the
public. We also had many requests for fixes in beta4, so we switched
back to working on beta5. This version was more or less a big clean up
from all the old kernel files, replacing the old PDF engine, a new POS
interface, possibility to set-up the way patrons can login and many
more. This was released on 16 October 2009.

The future

Although we're still working on the old PHP MyTicket code base and
will be supporting it for the coming versions. Newer versions are
planned to create a cleaner, plug-in orientated versions moving to the
earlier planned MVC kernel layout. The next BETA version will have a
big clean-up of the kernel and will replace the email engine.

Who are we?

Christopher Jenkins, founder of Fusion Ticket, born in 1989 and lives
in the UK. Currently a student at University of Plymouth studying
Computing.

Since 2004 he started web development, started with basic html at
first which then grew into the usage of Server Side Scripting.

In 2007 he started development on phpMyTicket which was the first
delve into the real world of project management and programming. He
has seen Fusion Ticket grow from a little side project to the
substantial project that it is today and welcomes all new team members
and visitors we have today.

Along side Fusion Ticket, University, he also maintains websites for a
few clients and does IT/Networking support in the local area.

In 2009 Chris had a brief encounter with Oracle doing some database
and development work for them as part of his degree.

Chris also partakes in his spare time, sound engineering, stage crew
work, drumming, gaming and robotics.

Niels v/d Spek, Main developer of current beta versions, born in 1968
and from the Netherlands.
He started developing around 1985; first in simple business basic
later moved to Clipper and Pascal/Delphi.

In 1999 he started his own company LumenSoft Int. developing software
for care centers and Hotel reservation systems.

Late 2002 he starting working on some small PHP/MySQL scripts/
projects. One of them is still used on his own web server. In spring
2007 he was asked to find a simple web application to sell tickets on
the internet and found fusionticket. After some study he found out
that it had potential and started adapting it to be used for his
client. Now he is the main developer of fusion ticket, together with
Chris.

Lou Fives, Document manager, P.R. Manager and Tester, born 1952 in the
USA.

A computer science major, in the early days of computers, Lou opted
for a carreer in sales management and did not work with computers,
again, until 1982. From his first VIC 20 with 300 baud modem to the
massive machines of today, he has grown along with them.

Lou joined the Fusion Ticket Team in May of 2008 while looking for
ticketing program for his alumni website. His contributions include
the wiki, editing the newsletter, and testing the program on his live
events.

Lou currently owns and operates his own insurance business, in Las
Vegas, NV

Mike Taylor,

The latest addition to the team, Mike joined the Fusion Ticket Team in
February 2010. Mike has been working with computers since 1968 when he
joined a well established British Computer Company as a Commissioning
Engineer, he then progressed to System Design of large scale Naval
Computer Systems before taking up a position as a Sales Manager with a
subsidiary of a very large Aerospace Company in the UK.

Mike is Webmaster and Stage Manager for Reading Phoenix Choir,
positions that led him to searching for ticket selling solutions. This
resulted in his setting up Fusion Ticket sites for the Choir and the
Aldworth Philharmonic Orchestra for which his son is Music Director.
Having always been motivated to solve hardware and software problems
and since his retirement with time to help, Mike is pleased to add his
technical and marketing skills to the established Fusion Ticket team."
