I have done my best to comment the algorithm which creates the shortcut. Almost all the work takes place in StoreIterator, please let me know if it makes sense.

Okay, I'll have a look through.

Although this just reminded me of something. Most of the methods aren't fully documented. When you have time, can you add proper javadoc comments for each method, explaining what they do?
