Memo to: The University
Community
Subject: Rebuilding after Typhoon Yolanda
With
deep sadness we continue to witness the havoc wrought by the strongest
typhoon ever experienced by our country. At the same time, we know and
we believe that while this has bent our spirit, we will not be broken
and we will rebuild our nation from the ruins.
It is in
this spirit that we call on our community to share time, talent and
treasure for the immediate relief and immense rehabilitation needed in
the days ahead. There are various efforts now being put together.
The
Ateneo Dream Team has organized the University to be a satellite unit
for relief operations of the Department of Social Welfare and
Development (DSWD). The most immediate need right now is for warm bodies
to help in the repacking of thousands of relief goods. Our students
will be doing this all throughout the day at the College Covered Courts.
We will need more hands to work on the relief goods especially during
the 4:00pm to 10:00 pm shift. Those who wish to donate in cash will
please course their gift to receiving stations on our campuses and by
the other means identified in our website (
www.ateneo.edu). We shall use these donations for immediate relief and the subsequent work of rebuilding communities.
Those
who wish to donate in kind and cash will please channel their gifts to
the Society of Jesus' Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan, whose center of
disaster relief operations is in the Richie Fernando Covered Courts,
adjacent to the Loyola House of Studies, on the eastern side of the
Ateneo Loyola Heights campus. Please check
https://www.facebook.com/SLBFanpage for details on how you can send your donations.
We
all know that these are times that try our faith in the benevolence of
God and in the goodness of life. While we have been brought low by these
tragedies, we seek solace in the shadow of the Cross, the mystery of
love staying with us amid the ruins. More than ever, we need to be the
compassion and strength of God for our people, His people.
lux in Domino, we are called to be,
Jose Ramon T Villarin SJ
