Ipurchased White Dwarf 458 digitally (for solo rules as covid increases here) but I can't find a reader app for windows 10 that will read their epub3 fixed layout format properly. If it does read its tiny and I can't zoom in, but more often then not it just is all garbled.

I heard back from GW, but they are being not very helpful. I will attempt more software but even the ones they recommend for windows 10 do not allow the epub3 file to be zoomed so its super small and hard to read.

My painstakingly solution was to screenshot every page on my surface pro and then make my own pdf of the rules that I would use for a game (my paper battletome was a month delayed, so this was my only way to get the rules).

I think "thorium reader" worked pretty decently. It wasn't great for a touch tablet though, but will work fine on a laptop or computer since you probably are used to pressing buttons instead of gestures.

Thats GW's normal response they don't usually do anything until a sizeable number of people tell them they need to make changes. Thus we the community need to be after them for making changes and tell them what we want. Importantly to tell them to change their dated systems for community feedback and growth. Its our responsibility and our future if we want warhammer to last.

Until recently, I only used an Android tablet with Google Play Books to read my Adeptus Titanicus and Necromunda EPUBs. However, after buying the new Necromunda Core Rule Book I ran into some unexpected problem: There's a file size limit of 100MB that cannot be circumevented...the Core Rule Book got 139MB (so far, most of the books were around 75). So I had to look for an alternative. The best one turned out to be Colibrio. "Reasily" displays the ebooks correctly as well but is less comfortable when it comes to navigating pages. Two other apps did a pretty well job but still butchered some headings. Hende I'm not naming them and actually already forgot which they were ;-).

After that I checked whether there might be a PC version of Colibrio available. There kind of is. Atm it's only a demo (Vanilla Reader) that's running in the browser. But it got the same functionality as the Colibrio Android app. ( )

Hi everyone! I have a problem with the audios, I place them but when exporting they do not appear. I am exporting in EPUB format, the audios are mp3. What can happen? If anyone can help me, thank you.

Hi @maria21886863sfir I see you don't have an answer yet, sorry about that. I'm not sure it's possible to export audio files embedded into an InDesign document to epub format. I tired it with a file and it won't work. Maybe someone will come along with a workaround.

Are you previewing the page with audio file in the EPUB interactivity Preview window? If so, click the play button a SECOND time. The latest versions of InDesign introduced a bug that prevents it from playing sounds the first time the preview window is opened.

Also, when exporting: are you on Windows or Mac? What epub reader do you use to preview? On Windows there's really only one good option for interactive media-rich epub files: Thorium. On the Mac the default reader should do a proper job.

This Question should really be posted in the Affinity on Desktop Questions forum. This forum is for members to post Resources that they have created, or sometimes pointers to external resources.

Thank you, sorry I put it in the wrong place, sadly the conversion software does not convert and leave the pagination the same, so it wont flow. but thanks anyway. it's a pity Affinity publisher can't do it.

Yes that would be probably the only way to go, reroute via PDF to ePub then with tools like Calibre. - Conversion quality will be probably mediocre here, you have to give it a try, in order to see if it fulfills your individual needs.

or do you think this will work, export the full book in each element in their own pdf(image, vector and text) then place them into InDesign then export as ePub, do you think this will export the fixed layout ePub correctly and is this true ePub then?

I just did a quick test by opening a correct PDF document into Jutoh. It needs Calibre to successfully import a PDF and its layout is still fixed. That means that your generated epub will still behave like a PDF on an ereader.

A dedicated ebook creation program like Jutoh, does a far better job. Also another benefit of Jutoh is that it generates very clean epub/kindle files. It also warns you when it finds "direct" formatting in your document which should be avoided as much as possible.

Layout for ebooks is very much different from printed publications, even PDF. PDF is a fixed format which when used as a base for ebook files, ends in poor results. Converting your Publisher document to ebook will give you much more work and disappointing results.

EPUB file reader is a file viewer software that allows you to read ebooks with the extension .epub format. The software interface consists of two parts. The left part will display the document chapter, and the right is a browser to show the document content.

An EPUB file is an Electronic Publication in an eBook format. You can download EPUB files and read them on Mobile, Tablet, Computer, etc. This free eBook standard supports more hardware readers than any other file format.

There are two simple ways to use the EPUB Reader in Windows 11. The two methods are listed below for further reference. Using this simple way, you can download any epub app or use the MS Edge extension to read.

To add an extension to read epub files, open the Microsoft Edge browser first, then click on the extension symbol at the upper right corner of the browser, as shown in the image below. And then select Open Microsoft Edge Add-ons.

The above method shows the process to open .epub files on the browser using the Add-ons. The other way to do this in Windows 11 is to download the Epub reader app from Microsoft Store. The Apps are listed below:

After successfully installing the app, you can double-click on the .epub files you downloaded earlier to open or right-click on the file and click Open and read.

With Atlantis Word Processor, you can convert any document file into an eBook in the EPUB format. And when you need to make a change to an eBook, all you need to do is modify the corresponding source document in Atlantis, then resave it as eBook.

However, at times you might want to make adjustments to EPUB files that are not possible directly through the GUI of Atlantis. This can be done with the tweak_epub utility, irrespective of whether the EPUB files were generated by Atlantis or by another application.

All EPUB files are actually ZIP files with ".epub" as their filename extension instead of ".zip". So if you rename an EPUB file by changing its ".epub" extension to the ".zip" extension, you'll be able to open the newly-renamed ".zip" file in any file compression software, and view the files contained within the original EPUB package. You can then extract files of interest, modify them in a text editor, and put them back in the ZIP file. To recover a working EPUB package (file), you finally need to change the file extension back to ".epub" (instead of ".zip").

There is one important detail to remember when you modify an EPUB file in a ZIP software. The first file in any proper EPUB package must be "mimetype", and it is always a 20-byte ASCII file containing this string of text:

This "mimetype" file must always be stored within the EPUB package in uncompressed form. So before using a ZIP software to tweak your EPUB files, make sure that the software will preserve the original order of files, and leave the "mimetype" file uncompressed. Not every ZIP software will allow such "delicate" changes to a ZIP file.

The tweak_epub utility will allow you to make adjustments to your EPUB files in a very convenient way. You'll be able to adjust individual files within an EPUB package without affecting the other files in it.

In most cases, you'll want to make changes to the text files (HTML, XML, CSS, OPF, etc) contained in the EPUB package. To edit a text file, click to select it in the "Files" box ("styles.css" in the example below), then press the "Edit File..." button:

You can then make any suitable change to the file. When you are done, click the rightmost cross button on the text editor title bar, or simply press AltF4 to close the editor. You will get a confirmation message:

You then need to direct the utility to the folder containing the executable file of your text editor. Executable files have an ".exe" extension. Click to select the ".exe" file for the text editor, then press the "Open" button:

All the folders and files from the EPUB package will automatically be extracted to a temporary folder on your system and opened in your default file manager. This temporary folder is created under your "My Documents" folder, and its name matches the EPUB filename:

Click this button to save all the modified files to the EPUB package. Of course, you can always click the "Cancel Changes" button if you do not want to make changes to the EPUB file after all. Note that the temporary folder generated under your "My Documents" folder is automatically removed from your system as soon as you close the "tweak_epub" utility window.
