Thefunnest thing you can do with a gameshark is throw it at a wall. Cheat cartridges will become corrupt almost the instant you put it in your N64. Even if it does work you'll need to put in another game first because Oot and MM require you to set the activation key first. After that you can look foreward to some marginally fun cheats (infinite health? fuuuuuuun) before the game crashes over and over again.

yeah.. ive seen some sweet pictures of gameshark for ocarina of time.... i never did it peraonlly my self (which is strange, because i could have back in the day)... i think i used my game shark more so for the game "golden-eye".... good times... but yeah, ive seen things like infinity life, infinity ammo for arrows, and even diff. colord tunics..... knock yourself out!!

Yes, I must admit that goldeneye was a fun game to throw codes at. I used to make such crazy codes for that game, such as shrinking the screen to miniscule proportions or having the width of the level change depending on which way you were facing.

Yeah I got me one and it was a huge waste of 50 dollars. I could only figure out how to do one cheat and it funked up my OoT game. I went on the net to find some cheats and none worked. Its a hassle to try and use and its too confusing. (maybe just for a simple mind like mine though) I wish I could take those 50 dollars back. Though it did come with an instructional tape I think...yeah...wonder where that is...

Me, I don't use Game Shark. I use Action Replay since I have OoT and MM for Gamecube! *sigh* All the fun things you can do on it. . . ! Uh, anyway, *cough cough* it's too bad you can't get AR for the N64, since AR dosen't erase all your precious data or completely screw up your game.

If you want to use Gameshark codes, I would get an emulator just to be safe. Also, I have lots of fun things that only work with Gameshark codes. I battled Volvaga & Ganon as Kid Link & Queen Gohma as Adult Link, beat all three. Also, on Majora's Mask, there is a levitate cheat, & I used it to enter the clock tower early (as soon as I started time over). Another cheat allows you to use any items, including all masks, no exceptions, absolutely anywhere. With that one, don't use the Giant's Mask, the game will freeze. Lots of possibilities with codes.

its all about the 'opperating system' the game shark code has two hexadecimal values (base 16), the first is a memory address that should be overwritten and the second is the command that overwrites the memory, the N64 sends a quiry to the cartridge through the gameshark that reads the line and then modifies it in a way before sending it back. Technically the data on the cartridge shouldn't change because it is only read although you can screw up when the gameshark writes to the cartridge. Especially if you are one of the idiots that put in a random string on letters to see what would happen. A lot of people think that the codes 'don't work' but they all do something, whether you notice it or not.

some of the cartridges have slightly different code and allocation tables so certain memory refrences would be different for cartridges

if you have read my post to this point without cursing, good for you, have a cookie

I never ever used a game shark before (Its True!) If I did, I would use one after I beat the game. Why? I dont use guides, or anything to help me beat the game, (zelda) I just play it the way you are soppose to play it.

Servers must install Gameshark server-side to allow players to use its features, while each individual player who wishes to use Gameshark must also install Gameshark client-side. Server owners can disable all features of Gameshark with the command /gameshark enable false.

Client-side installation is not required if a player does not wish to use Gameshark; a player without Gameshark installed client-side can still join servers that have Gameshark installed server-side. On the other hand, if a player has Gameshark installed client-side and the server does not have Gameshark installed server-side, the player will be able to join the server, but Gameshark will not function.

On servers, the mod is client-side and players each have to individually install the mod to use it. The server itself does not have to install Gameshark, but may do so in order to prevent players from using Gameshark to search for certain types of objects.

Gameshark displays its information in a box which can be freely repositioned anywhere on the screen. Initially, when nothing has been found, Gameshark will display the player's coordinates and the biome that the player is in.

If any of the aforementioned objects or Pokmon are found, Gameshark will display them in the box. An arrow indicates the direction that the closest found object is in relative to the direction the player is facing. By default, the distance between the closest object and the player is also shown. If the server has disabled sending precise locations, Gameshark will display the server's range instead of one of the highest weighted object it has found. If Gameshark finds a Pokmon, the species of Pokmon will also be displayed in the box, although the difficulty of boss Pokmon will not be displayed. The server can disable sending the species name, in which case the name will show as "unknown". Gameshark will only find wild Pokmon; Trainer-owned Pokmon will not be tracked.

It is possible to toggle what Gameshark will search for by accessing its menu with a hotkey (\ by default). Within this menu, it is also possible to make Gameshark search for one or more specific species of Pokmon. In order to navigate the list of Pokmon, it is necessary to search for the Pokmon's name; the list will shift down to the first Pokmon in the list whose name starts with the searched text.

These commands are no longer in use for Gameshark 6.x.x and above. Everything is now configurable via the Gameshark UI (\ key for clients/Singleplayer), or the Gameshark config file (located in the config folder for servers on Multiplayer)
