Sustainable coffin at the Copenhagen Design Fair

This year’s Copenhagen Design Week theme is "Think Human". Copenhagen Design Fair, CODE 11, has therefore opted to be the first design fair to exhibit the unique, environmentally-friendly Green Way to Heaven® coffin at the fair in Bella Center from 4 September, as part of Design Week.

Copenhagen Design Week places Danish design and design solutions on the agenda under the theme “Think Human”. In that context, Copenhagen Design Fair, CODE 11, will be the first design fair to exhibit the world’s first sustainable coffin at Bella Center as part of the Week’s festivities.

With the Green Way to Heaven® coffin, designed by Brahe Design and Dancof, it is possible to make the final journey in a stylish and environmentally-friendly manner. The coffin is the first sustainable coffin that can be mass-produced. It is made from PULP, a long-fibred, environmentally-friendly recycled paper, and requires only seven kilogrammes of paper and two litres of water per coffin, thus sparing both trees and CO2 emissions.

“CODE 11’s motivation for exhibiting the Green Way to Heaven® is first of all that it fully supports the Design Week theme – Think Human – which focuses on the Danish humanistic tradition, setting the consumer, individual and human being at the centre with respect to sustainability, design processes, choice of materials and production methods”, says exhibition manager Lone Ann Disch.

“Moreover, the coffin’s basic concept perfectly matches CODE’s concept insofar as representing ground-breaking Danish design using innovative materials. And then, it is also a type of interior furniture – a beautiful, final piece”, adds Disch.
