I could swear i've seen an xref manager for trueview before but now that we are using 2015, I can't seem to find it anywhere. There use to be a binder clip on the lower right of the application window but now its gone. How can you find out more info about the xrefs in the drawing? Please help.
I think it was Trueview 2009 or 2010 where you could copy commands from Notepad into Trueview to access functionality that was hidden and not supposed to be included. That functionality (variables) however ceased from 2012... _en/qaID.asp?tip=6342
So here's the deal. I installed the new 2016 version of Trueview. My customer was using 2015. Once Trueview detects there's a missing xref, it'll ask if you want to resolve the path, like autocad. If you say ignore, it'll remember your selection and not prompt you going forward. When I was on my customer's computer, the prompt didn't pop up which is why we are now here. Not sure how to get the prompt back.
Anyways, when I installed the new version on my computer, the prompt came up, I chose to resolve the path and the xref manager came up! I docked it and so far it stayed put after opening multiple files.
I don't understand why this is so hard to find. There use to be a button that looked like a binder clip on the lower right of the application window in the status bar that you can toggle. Now its gone. It shouldn't be this hard to find the feature. Its critical info for the drawing.
I know this is old, but if the prompt doesn't come up to resolve the path to the xrefs, you can click on the up arrow on the right side of the command bar at the bottom to view a history of the commands. This should show the commands trying to load the xrefs which should give whatever the last path/filename was. Example:
Opening an AutoCAD 2000/LT 2000 format file.

Resolve Xref "XREF1": P:\98134B\modelB1.dwg
"modelB1.dwg" cannot be found.
Resolve Xref "XR-A6": P:\98134\XR-A6.dwg
"XR-A6.dwg" cannot be found.

Autodesk DWG. This file is a TrustedDWG last saved by an Autodesk application or Autodesk licensed application.
Some of our user use DWG True view. They often need to search for a text in the drawing. DWG TrueView does not allow the function FInd. And I dont think that we are able to code (vba) that function in TrueView
It is an often asked feature, that thusfar has not yet been implemented.
A work-around is using Autodesk Design Review, which has a search function for text objects. But to be able to read a .dwg with Design Review you need to install the corresponding version of DWG True-View. Since the last available version of Autodesk Design Review is 2013, that means you need to work with DWG trueview 2013.
The download page for old versions of trueview can be found here.
I hope this helps
not all people have a licence for a full autocad, in a lot of companies those licences are limited for drafters and technicians only, project management will more often use a viewer to consult the work of their drafters.
After having major issues with trueview 2022 installing silently with sccm i am now trying the newer 2023 version. I am able to get the product to install silently but it will only load for the user that installed it. If for example another user logs onto the machine the secondary installer doesnt load correctly and the following error comes up -
If i install it as that user it works but again any other user it will fail to load. As we are wanting to do this via gpo/sccm when it installs as the system account this is the same behaviour. I dont see anyway to do this en masse to our computers now.
It's scarcely imaginable that this would pass testing and is now the case over TWO versions of the product.
We're not talking about a fringe usage case here : installing this product with SCCM or Intune must be common in hundreds if not thousands of companies worldwide. As I understand it, in any scenario where a service account is used to install it, the product will behave in this manner.
There is a solution further up kindly provided by M.Latz, but that applies to the previous version only I presume. As things stand I'm contemplating registry import batch files and other such nonsense just to correct something that should never have been published, and frankly it's laughable that it's not been corrected since.
I followed Markus' manual instructions on replacing the product code in the registry, and it did not work, so I read down a little further and took Alvin's suggestion to view the MSI product code with ORCA, where I found that Markus' product code was wrong for my version of Trueview 2023. I applied the MST file as Markus suggested and installed the product again on a test machine. Now it works. It appears that Markus' MST file pulls the correct product code probably out of the MSI and applies it correctly. Works like a charm. Thanks Markus and Alvin.
Hey PMPC crew... looks like this was last looked at a little over a year ago. With the work you have done with custom apps portal supporting multi-file installers, perhaps it's time to look at DWG TrueView again?
Cheers!
Given the comments of my colleague below (I'll paste again in case you missed it), at this time we can't support this app. Kindly vote or comment on this idea in order for us to support products with this installer behaviour/functionality: -I-1463
We've played with the idea of the prescript, the issue there is that it will not work for our customers on the basic license, or for customers who opt to use the native ConfgMgr 3rd Party Patching feature. We'll keep an eye on this and consider it in the future.
We probably won't be able to support this. It seems the installer file needs to be manually extracted to perform a silent install -trueview/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-run-self-extraction-of-DWG-TrueView-2019-install-package-from-Command-Line.html
CadTempo will also record time in Autodesk AutoCAD LT and other Autodesk products - even viewers such as DWG TrueView. Each user that accesses the drawing is recorded independently and a complete time history is maintained.
What is the procedure to make use of this app for a single user. I want to see the editing time spent on a dwg .i mean i can see that i have to right click on the icon and click on enable the app with autodesk then it opens the autocad . is that how it works ? can you please guide me.
Thank you for your review Melvin.Greetings Kavita, Please email me for your support questions (located to the right side of this page). You can view the edit time in the CadTempo viewer after the application has had the chance to record the time. This usually will happen after the drawing has been saved and closed or once AutoCAD has closed.
DWG TrueView?
