BUTI have an old Windows 2003 Server OS on a machine that I need to put an Arch Guest on, so it is the problem. My issue is that I have to use a several year old version of VBox (4.3.12) for it to be compatible. I got Arch installed on it fine, Kernel is 4.11.9-1 i think. However, when I try to use DKMS to install the Guest Additions (I need it for windows file sharing) it looks like it tries to install the latest version of 5.xxxx_OSE and does not install correctly (ie never builds the modules). I'm guessing because the Guest Additions 5.xx or whatever won't work with the old 4.3.12 of Virtualbox. True?

Of course not knowing what I'm doing, I found an old 4.3.12 Guest Additions.run file and tried to manually implement it that way. I have installed the kernel headers but it complains that "Unable to determine Linux distribution. I found a thread about something like that but got nowhere with it.

Of course I've looked at a bagillion posts on VBox and GA, and as mentioned have it working on my normal updated laptop. It is just this old windows Server OS (which I can't upgrade for various reasons I won't bore you with, but suffice to say I'm stuck with it) and also stuck with the old version of VBox.

In case something changes, or has changed in arch linux that prevents the old package from functioning, you could try to hack the PKGBUILD for latest virtualbox-guest-dkms to install the older version.

First, the path of least resistance. Are you merely trying to move files between guest and host? or do you really need the virtual folder stuff. For the former, you could just use a sftp client on the Windows side and sshd on the guest.

Assuming, no. I would suggest that you grab the Guest Additions package from the svn ( ), modify the PKGBUILD to use the version of guest additions you need, and build the package with makepkg. I have not tried this, and I suspect as a first time poster that might look daunting. But, let me put it out there as a starting point....

How to Ask Questions the Smart Way

Thank you both for the suggestions. I believe I am truly trusting you that this is daunting to the beginner. So, I initially went to the Archive and found that old dkms, as that seemed the less challenging of the two proposals thus far. Not entirely knowing what to do with it, i simply unrolled the tarball and initiated 'Make' command at /usr/src/vboxguest-4.3-12

As expected, I was met following output; and did not think I would get that lucky. Hopefully it is just that I am being foolish about how to implement the dkms package? Would be grateful for a helpful comment.

Assuming the log file is helpful I provide it here......I am terribly sorry again for being at ground zero here but giving it a go. Perhaps this all isn't worth the hassle, that said, here is the output.

Hope this finally works properly with VirtualBox 5 as I came here to make an angry post about HPE not getting their act together regarding this. Cisco is so much ahead of HPE when it comes to training and HPE still drags its feet.

To my experience MPLS L2VPN as well as VXLAN/EVPN do not work with bridged-ports in the simulator; can be configured but traffic is not flowing. However they work perfectly using a routed port towards the end-node.

It's surprising that HPE still has not it's act together when it comes to training materials. Cisco is now so far ahead that I doubt HPE will ever catch up. Even Juniper is doing better when it comes to training materials. Theres plenty of Cisco books, video courses from respectable training companies like CBT Nuggets and of course Packet Tracer 7 for simulation. HPE is still dragging its feet and seems to have abondoned any effort to improve training materials altogehter.

Latest version of Comware Lab should work ok though. I got it running on 64bit Win 10 and latest version of VirtualBox wihtout much problem. Didn't have to do anything special. Only problem I had was that download from China was extremely slow and took almost a full day, and of course no release notes.

@mtbernier Yes, I see the very same symptom. I reproduced on a test system updating W10pro all the way from 1507 to 1709 and it was working with 1511 still. The update process did not involve the versions between though since I started from scratch with an old USB stick. I did not use HCL a while on my regular installation so I cannot tell which upgrade exactly caused the trouble if it was any 1511

As W10 nowadays is pretty flexible when it comes to changing the boot device and underlying HW I try to obtain such image for troubleshooting running on a local test hw or a VM (ignoring any possible activation trouble of course).

Then I noticed that I couldn't create a simple virtal machine and start it. so I uninstalled virtualbox and upgraded tot virtualbox 5.2.6. This helped for starting a new Virtual machine, but now in HCL I receive error "please check your installation of VirtualBox API" . Becaus this message has been around with version 4.2 and that had to do with a new path variable I added this variable but still no joy.

The bar that contained those items disappeared in Firefox after the update to 110 I believe. I don't know how to get it back, I've searched settings. The bookmarks and all the data appear to still be there. It's been there since, I think, version .9 something. I updated to windows 10 from windows 7 about 3 months back. I noticed the change immediately. I don't even know what the bar is called. I still have my windows 7 machine since I am still trying to resolve problem with windows 10 and I'm even thinking of going back to window 7. It did the update to 109 without a problem.

You will have to install the current release to get regular updates about once per month.Note that you will have to create a new profile as well, so you may want to keep Nightly a bit longer and use Sync to transfer your data to the release profile.

I've found my problem but I'm not sure how to fix it. I need the 32bit version of thunderbird to send email with the version of quickbooks I'm using. Is it possible to have both versions of thunderbird installed at the same time with the 32-bit version set to only send the quickbooks forms or do I need to install the 32-bit thunderbird and replace the 64bit version?I've also been trying to bet virtualbox running my old software but I've hit several snags in that. Is there another 32 bit mailer I can install for send only?
