“Hardened Target” Personal Protection Systems: Informational Primer
Saturday, June 6th, 2015:  1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

The following is information we send out to potential Instructor Candidates for the HT Program, prior to attending a 2  1/2 - 3 day Level 1 course.

The course on June 6th, will be an “overview” to the system: it’s purpose, sources and background, method of instruction, and sample drills to give an understanding of how it’s presented.

When asked where to go for self-defense training, most people automatically answer “a Karate School”. Although most Martial Arts Schools advertise self-defense classes, the vast majority of Instructors rely on what they learned in their own traditional training, on what their Instructors learned from their Instructors, with any actual experience being “several generations” back.

With actual serious assaults increasing, effective training is becoming paramount to many.  At the same time acting lawfully is a constant question. When Instructors are asked what the laws actually allow or require, not many have the experience or knowledge to answer.

Many schools are looking for a personal protection program to offer adults, a program built around a system that that is simplistic, but above all effective, and based on experience that isn’t “too many generations” away from the actual Instructors.

After completing this course, you will be easily able to add HT drills to your current classes, or offer short courses of 2-3 hours, including the use of O.C./Pepper Spray. One such course will cover the cost of this training. After becoming familiar and versed with the material, you will be able to put together different sections for different target audiences, of 1 hour to 2 days. Continuing education will also be available to attendees along with new resource material.

Attendees will complete the HT Level 1 material, including the background information, instructional theory and methods used in the course, information on legal concerns regarding the Use of Force in self-defense, (using WI Statutes and federal guidelines) including resource material:

Instructional “templates” for teaching the physical skills and drills used to teach or train in the “HT System”, including learning, practicing and teaching:
“Emergency Tools” – Personal Weapons: Hands, Feet etc., Standing and on the ground

Impact Tools – Short, medium and long, such as flashlights, sticks, umbrellas, canes

  Edged Weapons – Knives, pens

Improvised Weapons – Belts, chairs etc.

O.C. / Pepper Spray – What it is, how to teach it’s use, where to obtain it

Attendees will receive an HT Level 1 Instructor Manual including the above sections. They will be eligible to order HT Instructor shirts, HT T-shirts and DVD’s, all for cost.

They will be eligible for Instructor discounts at any further specialized training such as Firearms, CCW, FMA, Security/Control Tactics etc., as well as free attendance of HT Student training sessions at Four Winds MA and numerous other Instructor classes.

Instructor Information will be included on the “Hardened Target – Training Solutions – Four Winds Martial Arts” FB page, the Four Winds website, as well as the HardenedTarget.com site (updating in progress, to include pictures, background info and links to Instructor’s other sites).

Excerpts from the HT manual are included to review, along with other informational links.

Master Murphy,

Thank you for sharing that information. It sounds very interesting. I am not sure about my availability on June 6th, but once I know that I am available, I will let you know.

Thank you for the information Master Murphy.  I am registered for a weekend survival course with Miss Klein that weekend and am unable to attend.
