Title:

"The Java(TM) 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE(TM)) 1.4 Release,
OpenGL(R), and New I/O: High-Performance 3D Graphics for the Desktop
Client"

Abstract:

The Java(TM) 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE(TM)), 1.4 release, and
the facilities in the New I/O package (java.nio) enable significantly
higher performance in key domains, including 2D and 3D graphics, for
client applications written in the Java programming language.

Jausoft's free software (OpenGL(R), for JavaTM Technology) is a Java
programming language-enabled binding for the OpenGL(R) 3D graphics API.
OpenGL is a C programming language API supported on every major
operating system. Jausoft's free software enables fast, lightweight, and
portable 3D applications to be written entirely in the Java programming
language. Built-in support for java.nio yields application speeds
comparable to that of optimized C or C++.

Multiple demonstrations, including an analysis of the Grand Canyon demo
introduced at the 2001 JavaOne(SM) conference, illustrate the effective
use of New I/O and Jausoft's free software.

Brief biography:

Kenneth Russell is a member of the Java HotSpot Client Compiler group at
Sun Microsystems. He is a also technical contributor to other aspects of
the HotSpot JVM and JDK at large.
