Media headlines this week have been emblazoned with reports of two male
"soap opera" stars suffering alleged assault by their partners. This is a
notable climate change in that male domestic violence victims have in the
past been often too ashamed, or too afraid of not being believed, to speak
out about such assaults.

Of course, most physical "domestic violence" assaults involve men assaulting
women, or adults of either sex assaulting or abusing children. Domestic
Violence attacks in general and "Date Abuse" (including the "spiking" of
drinks with date-rape drugs) in particular are on the increase.

In response, the UK government have extended legal protection for victims
and there has been a growth in resources to aid and support victims of
intimidation or abuse, whether it be physical, verbal or economic in nature.

These trends have led me to update my conflict management course manual
"Facing Up to Hostility & Aggression" to include the topics of domestic and
date abuse. The subjects in the updated workbook are..

* My Beliefs about Hostility & Aggression - Questionnaire
* Hostility and Aggression - Definitions
* Common Sources & Triggers of Hostility & Aggression
* Hostility and Aggression in Society
* "Food for Thought" on Hostility & Aggression
* Domestic Violence & Date Abuse
* Legal aspects of Violence
* Health Implications of Aggression & Hostility
* Consequences of Engaging in Conflict
* Respond Effectively to Aggression & Hostility
* Breathing Technique for Handling Stressful Situations
* More Resources - Book and Website Listings
