Hello,

I am Bhasura Suseen, undergraduate from University of Colombo School of Computing, Sri Lanka.

Currently I am in the 5th semester reading for BSc. Computer Science degree.

I am really interested in contributing to an Astronomy related Open-source project. I have been engaging lot of Astronomy activities all around the country such as Sky observational camps, Lecture series and Workshops.

I am interested in contributing to project “Jupyter widgets for Astropy” for GSOC 2017

(I wrote a blog post, How I found Open astronomy and why I want to contribute.)

I went through Idea and links that are provided in the idea description.

Played with Jupiter notebooks, creating a live document is very interesting, it will be awesome to help creating widgets for atrophy. Have you created any, so far ?

It will be very helpful if you can direct me into an example widget, so that I can understand the structure and process of creating a widget.

I have a good experience in python,c#,Java,PHP,CSS,Java Script and R languages and familiar with GitHub. But this is the first time contributing to an Open source project.

I have these few Questions.

1.       How can I do my first contribution?

       Should it be a

a.       Issue correcting.

b.      Example widget creating.

c.       Small functionality of a widget.

2.       Should I focus on one of these deliverables ( FTTS Image viewer, Point Source detection, observation planning) or can I contribute to all of them ?

I would be happy to learn new things and test my skills.I am looking forward for instructions so that I can start contributing.

Cheers,

Bhasura Suseen.
