Day 1: Guest Speaker

In January of 1981 while in the dorms at school, Gregory Chamitoff saw the first launch of the Space Shuttle on TV.  At that time, he said to himself he had to talk to NASA and find out what to do. So, he called NASA. They gave him advice.

Basically, they said find out what your passion about and work really hard at that. And so, he tried to follow that advice.

Many years later NASA astronaut Robert L. Gibson was a graduation speaker at his school. Robert was the first astronaut he ever met. The astronaut had gone to his school.

It was the first time he ever thought. Wow, if somebody who sort of went on the same path that he did could do it maybe it’s actually possible for him.
