Dear Astrometry.net Team,

My name is Ozan. I am an artist and researcher

I have recently discovered your platform and tried it out by uploading a wide-field astronomical photograph I took. I was thoroughly amazed by the results. Before using Astrometry.net, I wasn't entirely sure what celestial objects were captured in my frame, but the data, annotations, and graphic overlays generated by your software provided incredible clarity and visual insight.

I have reviewed your licensing documentation, but to ensure there is no misunderstanding due to language nuances, I would like to clarify a few points regarding the outputs generated by your platform:

  1. Non-Commercial Archival / Sharing: Am I permitted to download and use the annotated images, charts, and identifying graphics generated by Astrometry.net within my public, non-commercial research archive?

  2. Commercial Use: What are the exact licensing terms if these output graphics or data are used in a project, publication, or product that generates commercial revenue?

In short, under what specific scope and attribution conditions may I use and publish the visual and analytical outputs generated by your software from my own photos?

Thank you for building such an impressive tool, and I look forward to your guidance.

Best regards,

Ozan Dinç

Hello,

Thanks for the kind words :)

All our licensing is about the code.  We make no copyright claims and put no licensing terms on the annotations or other outputs.  You are free to use the overlays, annotations, and plots in any way you like, with or without attribution.  (That's assuming you have rights to the original image!)

Of course, we would appreciate a mention or a link, but that is up to you :)

Best wishes,
dustin
