Subject: Ross Valley Players produces "Silent Sky" - Lauren Gunderson's play about the three women astronomers

Dear Astronomy Department,

I'm writing to you about the Ross Valley Players upcoming production of Lauren Gunderson's play, Silent Sky, about three
exceptional women astronomers, Henrietta Leavitt, Annie Cannon and Williamina Fleming.

We think this play would be of interest to you and your students.

The play opens tomorrow night, Friday January 17 at the Barn Theater in Ross, CA and runs through Sunday Feb 9. More info available here.

Synopsis: Silent Sky, set In the early 1900’s at the Harvard University Observatory tells the story about the Observatory's plan to discover the answer to “Where do we fit in space?” While prohibited from actually looking through the giant telescope (that’s for the men), the women used photographic plates of images gathered by others as their source. The compelling central characters proceed with humor and determination toward their goals, while handling the very contemporary challenge of balancing families and potential romance – and their absorbing scientific quest. What did they achieve? They changed the way we see the Universe.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you, Karen
