ESA Summer of Code in Space 2012: In Space no one can hear you code
=========================================================
The 2012 ESA Summer of Code In Space (SOCIS) starts!
Mentoring organization (i.e. open source space-related projects) that
want to participate can apply from now until 15/07/2012.
Modeled after the Google Summer of Code, SOCIS is an European Space
Agency (ESA) initiative and offers students the opportunity to be paid
to develop open source code for space related open source projects.
Code like you have never done before: this summer, participate to
SOCIS either as a student developer or as a mentoring organization.
ESA Summer of Code in Space (SOCIS) is an initiative supportedof the
European Space Agency (ESA) and offers student developers stipends to
write code for various space-related open source software projects.
Through SOCIS, accepted student applicants are paired with a mentor or
mentors from the participating projects, thus gaining exposure to real-
world software development scenarios. In turn, the participating
projects are able to more easily identify and bring in new developers.
In addition, this program constitutes an opportunity to connect
students with an interest of the space-industry
with several software companies.
The program is inspired by (but not affiliated or related in any way
to) Google's Summer of Code initiative, and has been designed with the
following objectives in mind:
a. raise the awareness of open source projects related to space
within the open source programming community, especially among
students;
b. raise awareness of ESA within the open-source community;
c. improve existing space-related open-source software.
d. find new talents for developing space applications
To learn more about the program, check out the time-line, visit our
documentation center, or head to our mailing list.
We hope you will be part of the project this year !
