My name is Mark Wishnia and I am the Manager of Communications for StreetSquash, a 501c3 nonprofit in Harlem.
Founded in 1999, StreetSquash is a transformative after-school pathways program committed to empowering underserved students from 5th grade through six years after high school. Our comprehensive, free program offers individualized curriculums, one-on-one tutoring, college access, mental health counseling, and career placement services. Beyond academics, we introduce the sport of squash, fostering physical well-being and teamwork. Our multi-year commitment ensures continuous support for students as they navigate their educational journey and beyond.
The tutoring aspect is a big component of what we do and we're always in need of volunteers looking to tutor. One of our partner schools, Success Academy has introduced physics to their 8th graders and many of them are struggling mightily with it. I was wondering if any one in the NYC area for SPS might be interested in volunteering as a tutor with our organization. We typically ask tutors to commit to one hour a week and we pair tutors with the same student(s) so they can work together for the entirety of the school year.
We are located at 41 West 115th Street. If any of your members are interested in being a physics tutor, please have them fill out our volunteer interest form
here. And if anyone has any questions, they can feel free to contact me directly.
Thanks,
MARK WISHNIAManager of Communications
