Dear CUNY Astro,
I'm reaching out on behalf of En Garde Arts, a New York City based theater company that has been doing work in new and interesting locations around the city for four decades. Our upcoming production, 73 Seconds by Jared Mezzocchi, focuses on the playwright's relationship to his mother after learning that she once worked at NASA and had been a contender for a space mission - a chapter of her life he had never heard about. The show is set in a planetarium and telescopes between personal grief and universal truths - both human and celestial.
If CUNY Astro would like to organize a group to attend our production, we would be happy to arrange a post performance conversation around the play. For groups of 10 or more, we’re offering a 10% ticket discount. You can purchase 10 tickets for $225 for previews or 10 tickets for $585 for the later shows. Feel free to visit our website for more details. The show runs through the following dates: Previews Begin: April 29th, Opening Night: May 4th, Closing Night May 18th.
Here is some more about the show:
Produced by En Garde Arts, 73 Seconds by award-winning artist Jared Mezzocchi tells the story of Jared’s relationship to his mother after learning that she once worked at NASA and had been a contender for a space mission - a chapter of her life he’d never known about. As Jared works to understand the truth of his mother’s past, he’s forced to come to terms with the reality of her present, as she struggles with Alzheimer's and her stories begin to slip away. In this piece about outer space, family, and our inability to cope with long-term catastrophe – staged inside a planetarium in the Lower Eastside Girls Club - Jared telescopes between personal grief and collective memory, asking how we piece together the past, especially when it resists being remembered.
Let me know if this might be something you’re interested in, and we can work with you to purchase tickets!
Warmly,
Elsa Marrian
