Join us in Pupin Hall at Columbia on Friday October 17 at 7pm in Pupin 301 for a talk by postdoc Dr. Athira Menon on massive stars. (Poster attached)
Title: The Fabulous Lives of Massive Stars
Abstract: “We are all made of star stuff- ashes left behind by the explosions of massive stars. But did you also know that the majority of these massive stars live with companions, fundamentally altering their lives and dramatic deaths as supernovae and black holes. Find out how massive stars are preparing us for a new era of astronomy- from gravitational waves to the colossal flood of data from the farthest corners of our Cosmos!”
We'll start the evening at 7pm with some astronomy trivia, followed by Athira's talk and Q&A. From 8:10-9:10pm, we will be outside observing on campus (weather permitting).
