Dear communities,

This is a gentle reminder about the Latin American Gravitational Waves Seminar on Thursday, May 14th, at 2:00 PM (Mexico City time), online.

The session will feature two 20-minute seminars, each followed by a brief discussion.

The meeting agenda is available here. You are welcome to add your announcements.

Speaker 1:  Dr. Antonio Enea Romano, Universidad de Antioquia
Title: Testing fundamental physics with multimessenger astronomy
Abstract:
The ratio between the gravitational waves (GW) and electromagnetic waves (EMW) luminosity distance ratio is a key observable that allows us to test the nature of gravity, using gravitational waves emitted from compact binary coalescences. In this talk, I will present a non-parametric method for constraining the GW-EMW distance ratio, in order to perform model independent analysis of observational data, not based on any specific theoretical or phenomenological assumption. Finally, I will show the constraints of the gravitational-electromagnetic distance ratio obtained from the analysis of binary black hole mergers data from the GWTC-3 catalogue with this method.

Speaker 2:  Dr. Sergio Vallejo-Peña, Universidad de Antioquia
Title: Model agnostic constraints of gravitational-electromagnetic luminosity distance ratio
Abstract:
Gravitational wave observations have opened a new window on our Universe, allowing not only to investigate the nature of compact objects, but also to test possible deviations from general relativity or the nature of dark energy. We show how multimessenger astronomy allows to test the predictions of the effective field theory of dark energy, and set constraints on  the speed of propagation of gravitational waves and the effective gravitational coupling.
