disable reminders?

how can i disable the "reminders" that keep showing up since i started
using the "Today" list as a way to filter tasks i want to keep in mind
each day.

i don't want them constantly popping up as notifications, but there
doesn't seem to be a way to turn them off. i tried everything that
seemed to make sense in the "Settings" for reminders, but nothing
stops them from becoming Notifications at random times during the
day. extremely irritating.

Adroid version: 2.3 (also 2.2 before Tmobile upgraded me)

Did you try the new setting "Reminders enabled?" in the Reminder
Settings? Try to deactivate it, it should work as you intended,
existing notifications wont be cleared, though.
