Hey Everybody,

Here's an update for everyone that is involved with the Dark Worlds: Project 31. I'm currently rounding the corner on finishing the scripts. In fact, the first batch should be sent out this week.

Since production is about begin, I need one last roll-call from the cast. So if everyone involved could reply to this thread with their contact info (email, skype, etc) it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Zack

Thanks for the contact info everyone! The first batch of scripts are done, so once Mr. Sale passes along the recording specs that he needs your files in, I'll start sending them out.

Be in touch very soon! :-D

Oh joy! ... work! Well first thing's first, I'll be incoding the
episodes at 192kbps to be on the safe side. Second, I will want
recordings done in either wav or aiff. Since I'm not the only one who
will be producing, I want things as uniform as possible. As long as
your recordings are 44100khz, mono or stereo doesn't matter; the final
product will be stereo. Any suggestions or questions, fire them away
as a reply to this message.

.wav would be too big a file to upload later, though, wouldn't it?  I don't know if my recording software can handle .aiff. I use Adobe Audition 1.0 here for my recording. When I record material for BounceRadio, I have them set to 192kbps, 44100kHz, sterero as a default.

Oh my. Just did a test save with just a 4-second audio clip. I am able to save it in .aif format and also in wave, but each file came out at over 1MB for just 4 seconds of data. Do we really need to deal with files that big?

I can understand why .wav would be preferred - it's an uncompressed file, and gives the best audio reproduction, but I think the files would to be too big to transmit.  Any thoughts, folks?

I am able to save it as a 320kbps mp3 (highest possible bit rate for mp3 - considered "audiophile" quality), which will still give a largish file, but not nearly as big as .wav or .aif

I'd say that's fine, but Allen will be the main person editing, so it's his call. Also, an easy and free way to send files under 100MB is You Send It. https://www.yousendit.com/

Best practice is to record each line as it's own .wav file instead of
every line in one huge file. All files will be sent using yousendit.
If you record a batch of lines, zip them up. I don't want to use mp3
because it is a compressed file, and the final file will be compressed
again. The plan is to have three copies of each episode as follows:
1. The full episode plus any music Zack and I feel fit the episode.
2. For the listeners that just want the podcast novel, an episode
minus the music.
3. Same as the second but different compression rate for
podiobooks.com distribution.

These are very good points, Allen. And if each line is in its own file, and we'll be zipping up all the lines together and then uploading the zip file to YouSendIt, that method should work well.

And since I can work and save directly into .wav here, my computer is all set to go.

I expect this will be covered anyway, but is there any convention you'd like used for filanames?

If your script has the lines numbered, you could save a huge amount of time if we name our files using your numbering convention - you will just have to gather the files, sort them and join them together (and remove the dead spaces between them)

Best I can do is numbered paragraphs, but that should work just the same.

Cheers,
Zack
