Ahem...some are celebrating Passover here. Just sayin'.

Actually, Jean, my church celebrates both, as a way of honoring the roots of  the Christian religion. But then, we're Methodists, and any excuse to eat...

It isn't just about the food, Kate. There is a service too, the story of the Exodus of the Jews from Egypt. It's a pretty important holiday in my neck of the woods.

I don't think Kate meant any disrespect.  She was just joking around like most of us do here.

I don't mean to offend, Jean. I was making light where maybe I shouldn't have. The Easter holiday is actually about more than bunnies and eggs, also. When I lived in Annapolis, I was on the worship committee and our church participated with the local Synagog; those who wanted to honor the roots of our religion had the opportunity to to learn. I actually have studies under my belt in divinity. My original goal was to work in hospice as a chaplain but funding is not available for seminary at this time. Sorry if my kidding offended. Was not meant.

Thanks, Kate. I appreciate your email. Jews are sensitive to kidding and only feel comfortable if it's done by other Jews. But you may already know that. We see our religion as more than just the roots of Christianity. It's a completely separate deal.

Easter is quite an important holiday for Christians and it offends me a bit when so much attention is paid to bunnies and candy. I value your friendship, Kate, feeling that we have grown fairly close, even just through email, during our debuts with Astraea. So I would never let something like this get between us.

But as a Jew, I need to remind people I'm here sometimes. Hope you understand.

My daughter dated a wonderful Jewish boy in high school. My best friend in the job I held in the hospital in Annapolis was Jewish - I attended the Bat Mitzvahs of both her daughters and I sat with her praying when Katrina hit because that's where she came from and where much of her family still lived. When her daughters went to the Holy Land as teenagers, we held daily prayers before work, just the two of us, for their safety. Julie and I also had many, many lively discussions about our faith and we were close enough that we teased each other constantly, especially because her whole family were doctors but she somehow didn't get on that boat (she said it was too cliché but the real reason was she wanted to marry her high school sweetheart (a lawyer). In the end, it's all about respect. When I said any excuse to eat, that was as big a poke at being Methodist as anything else. I love Jewish history. It's also my history. :-)

Let's not get into a religious debate.  We all have different beliefs here and the situation can do nothing but go south.  I've seen it happen too many times.

So we all agree to disagree, no offense was taken by anyone's email, bunnies and candy are great for some, not everyone, and we all live in a happy, peaceful world.  :o)  Deal?

Happy Easter to you all.

I don't know about your homes but ours will be filled with chaos, egg hunts
and other craziness. =)
