to Asterisk G.729
== BACKGROUND ON MY INSTALLATION ==

Running an Intel P4 (SSE2 / 3ghz) with Asterisk 1.7.1, and I installed
(successfully) the binary for Asterisk 1.6 (for some reason 1.7 is
skipped, so I assumed the 1.6 download is what should be used).

The exact file I used was "codec_g729-ast16-icc-glibc-pentium4.so",
and it seemed to install successfully.

Is this correct, or should I have used "codec_g729-ast16-gcc4-glibc-
pentium4-no-sse.so" or "codec_g729-ast16-gcc4-glibc-pentium4-sse3.so"
or "codec_g729-ast16-gcc4-glibc-pentium4.so"? I would assume not the
2nd one for sure though, because my chip is pre-SSE3.

== PROBLEM ==
I have 3 trunks with the same provider, and none of them are currently
in regular-use. If I make 1 of my trunks g729 only, it WORKS using the
g729 codec. However, if I change any of my other trunks to be g729
only NONE of the trunks work (if you call any of the 3 DID's for any
of the 3 trunks, the calls immediately disconnect).

I change 2 of the trunks back to "alaw", then the 3rd works just fine
on g729! This is extremely baffling since none of the other trunks are
in use, so it couldn't be that the problem is only 1 g729 channel can
be supported at once, because not even a single channel will work if
all my trunks are programed for g729 only.

== TROUBLESHOOTING DONE ==
Translation recalc 10 shows the following after g729: " - 3898 1300
1300 3298 1599 1299 3798 - - - 3798 2298 - - 4379"

Any help?! I'm beating my head against the wall!!!! THANKS!!!!

You should enable 'sip debug' via Asterisk console and check the codec
capabilities header. Its probably some misconfiguration at your or
provider side. If codec is present in translation table then it should
work. There is no limitation on number of channels.
Use plain pentium4 codec. Try stable Asterisk 1.8. I'm not sure what
1.7 is because such version does not exists.
