The title says it all.

No shame? or that is an understatement?

Dear Ashur,

For us Simko was a war criminal.

For the Kurds he was a war hero.

For the Turks he was a useful tool to get to Mar Benyamin.

The winners of this moment were the Turks: mar Benyamin was killed by Simko; and the Turks killed Simko.

It's very sad that our Assyrian school children in Assyria have to learn that he was a hero.

But don't worry too much. Many moretextbooks declared Saddam a hero too. Who believed that?

The same thing goes for names like Barzani or Simko. We simply have to remind pur people and the decent Kurds/Arabs our version of the truth.

Muoqra Akhona Mokheba, Matay Arsan,

Shlama Ashouraya M'Qabel,

The Kurdish figure (Simko) was the most wanted man during World War I.  And the fighting regiment that was after him, seeking to kill him, was non-other than the Assyrian fighters of WWI.  After the assassination of Mar Benyamin Shimoun, Simko was able to flee his birthplace town (Shakaknaia) which was ransacked and burned down by the Assyria fighters, killing all Kurdish shakaknia residents. In every village Simko sought refuge, the Assyrian fighters were there the next moment annihilating the total population seeking the revenge of Mar-Benyamin Shimoun. (Please read, the Assyrians during the two World Wars) by Malik Yacou Ishmael.  I remember this event because my late grand-father (Khoshi) narrated it to me when I was a young man.  My grand father had killed many of them just because of this unfortunate incident.  He told me that every Kurdish village they attacked was not left even with one alive among them.  In the end, and after too many Kurdish, and Iranian villages were burnt down, ransacked, and the villagers killed, Iranian Government eluded him to have a conference meeting with their governments and there the Iranian ganderma assassinated him killing also all his acquaintances.  Thus, after ending his life, the Iranian government asked the Assyrian fighters to end their revenge proving to them that the assailant was killed.

Now, going back to the important and volatile issue of discussion.  Naming a street under the name of Simko has double effect on us.  One is positive, and the other is negative.  The positive aspect of this is that our young generation will look at this in disdain, and separate themselves from the others.  It will look like, "Them and us".  This will bring a hidden heart feeling within our Assyrian youths to struggle more for separation from those who are THEM, and not US.  I hope you understood what I meant above. The second one is a reminder that they are the winners, and we ASSYRIANS, not THEM, are losers.  I believe, to make our new generation  proud, and believe in themselves again, our politicians, all as one regardless of their religious crap affiliation need to go to Barazani, and ask him to take it down for such heinous reason that Saddam Hussein is alive via this street name.  Also, our religious leaders too as like should do the same collectively.  This would show to the enemies of US, that when things like this takes place against the interests of the Assyrian nation,  it causes us all to be one.

It is very simple steps to be taken, and the street name will come down eventually.  Just with unity everything for us will be achieved.

Dear Brother Dr.  Matay, things like this is vital for us because it makes our blood boils and challenge us for actions.  But we have to be counter productive, and proactive too to encounter our enemies.

Sincerely,

Ashour Youluos Malek
