Agriculture SSC Workshop for Mahatma Gandhi National Fellows and District Skill Committees (DSCs) of Gujarat and Maharashtra, 28th June 2022 Tuesday 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM
This is in reference to the “brainstorming session of DSC capacity building” under the chairmanship of Hon. Minister on Thursday 16th June, Agriculture SSC organising workshop for MGN fellows and District Skill Committees (DSCs) of Maharashtra and Gujarat on 28th June Tuesday from 4: 00 PM to 5:30 PM.
Agriculture Sector is that wheel of the Indian economy without which the economy cannot sustain. Almost 70 percent of the India's population resides in its villages and primarily depends on the agriculture sector for their livelihood. Skilling for this population plays an important role for individuals and rural youth engaged in Agriculture and allied activities.
Agri and allied sector being rural centric, policies, projects and programmes need to be designed considering embedded limitations and around existing government schemes to reach in the remote / rural areas for skill training, in almost every segment of agriculture sector, as private sector participation is very limited and, in some areas, non-existent.
While a few decades ago Agriculture Sector was the preferred mode of employment around the world and in India, but due to low employment for wages in Agriculture and less opportunities for self- employment, a discerning shift is taking place for non Agri pursuits. In the recent years due to the expansion of the service sector, more & more people are taking up jobs where still low education and lack of appropriate skills are being accepted. To address the migration of rural youth to urban centres it is all the more important to skill them and engage them within the rural setup. This will also boost up the rural economy which is in distress. Skilling on promising / futuristic fields of agriculture can be both remunerative and attractive to the farmers and youth. Another important aspect is to include women in skill capacity development and to provide such skills that enable ‘second source of income’. Self – employment in Agriculture related activities will be the mainstay.
Agriculture SSC proposes to organize a Workshop for the MGN Fellows and DSC nodal officers to provide insights for Agriculture Skilling in India. The main agenda for the workshop will be focused on the Project Proposal Submission to MSDE under SANKALP for Project Approval Board (PAB) sanction and how to prepare good proposals with discussion on Agriculture and related scope of skilling in respective Districts.
