Director of Human Resources
Position Summary
Aviacode is looking for a progressive Human Resources Director to head up its first Human Resources function
within this rapidly growing medical coding company. We are looking for an uncommon individual—someone
with a solid foundation of HR basics (compliance, policies and procedures), with several years of hands-on
experience in scaling a company for growth.
The right candidate will not only provide strategic organizational support and guidance, but they must have
expertise in recruiting, onboarding, and workflow automation since hiring is a first priority. This is not a company
where traditional, old-school HR thinking is desired. Rather, we are looking for someone who is adventurous,
with a desire to experiment and become a true partner with the business.
This person will be a doer, rather than a delegator, with no fear of getting his/her hands dirty and digging in to
whatever needs to be done. Work will sometimes include the more mundane transactional work in order to keep
the process running (like filing, posting positions or new hire paperwork), but will often require high level thinking
and planning with an eye for the downstream dependencies required to make any new process work well.
This position gives someone the rare opportunity to build from the ground up, a dream Human Resources
function. The right candidate won’t find it daunting, but rather, invigorating and exciting. This position will require
someone who is an excellent communicator, who is adept at building bridges with co-workers and teams, and
who likes the challenge of making things work well.
Our company has a unique makeup, with over 400 contractors (coders) across the nation, along with over 80
employees, with a plan to double in size by next year. There is a recruiting resource in place for contract hiring,
but you will be hiring a part-time HR generalist to begin building a formal HR function. Because hiring will a
great need, we need to find a candidate who can be an ambassador for the company, and who understands the
importance of solid recruiting, hiring and onboarding.
Responsibilities include:
 Setting up recruiting and staffing strategy and internal processes and controls.
 Developing and implementing robust onboarding processes for all new hire activity.
 Putting in place performance management and improvement systems, processes and controls.
 Developing a training strategy and curriculum around key compliance and management issues ( ex:
Sexual Harassment, Managing within the Law, Behavioral Interviewing, etc.)
 Developing employee orientation and introduction to Aviacode.
 Put in place a compensation plan including the creation of broad grades/ranges, merit increase
budget and methodology and process.
 Facilitate benefits administration including working through broker to identify competitive benefits
plans, facilitating open enrollment, and administering accurate billing/reconciliation process.
 Be a keeper of the company culture by creating an environment of open and honest communication,
high creativity and operational excellence.
 Identifying and implementing systems (applicant tracking, core HR, onboarding) that will allow the
company to automate work flow and use technology to keep up with the rapid acceleration of hiring.
 Managing HR compliance related issues and reporting, including the development and continued
ownership of an employee handbook.
 Put in place processes to manage the highest volume Human Resources related processes,
including opening a position, making offers, onboarding, employee exits, performance reviews and
handling employee performance issues.
 Building bridges with management team and individual employees and becoming a trusted resource
and partner to solve problems and identify needs.
Position Location: Downtown Salt Lake City
Position Qualifications:
 Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field
 At least 2 years of relevant experience in a company of at least 300 employees, with SPHR or strongly
preferred. In absence of 2 years of experience, will consider Master’s Degree student with at least one
relevant Human Resources internship.
 Experience in a human resources generalist role, with hands-on experience in creating new processes
where none existed, preferably within a company that moved beyond paper-based processes into
workflow automation.
 Additional experience (at least one year) in hiring and onboarding.
 HR software implementation experience and ongoing ownership of systems configuration a plus.
 Training and development experience, preferably within the onboarding/orientation arena, with some
exposure to management training and compliance issues.
 Experience writing or exposure to the creation of policies and procedures/Employee Handbook.
Salary Range: $55-65,000 per year based on experience
