Sisters and brothers,

Just got off the phone with Carole Gentile — who currently is in ICU but soon to be moved to the cardiac unit.

Carol collapsed last night and was taken to the hospital with third-degree atrioventricular (AV) block, which in non-medical terms means her atrial and ventricular chambers were not in sync—actually disassociated from each other—throwing Carol into heart block and unconsciousness.  Thank God Lou was home to get her to the hospital.  Her pulse went down to 29 and her blood pressure plummeted.  Carol’s problem is electrical rather than what we usually think of as a heart attack.  It’s the difference between needing an electrician or a plumber but sometimes you need both.  Praise God, Carol’s heart converted—apparently on its own.  Whether Carol will need a pacemaker, only the tests will tell.  I am sure they will evaluate her medications to make sure they are not the cause of this condition.

All this to say, please pray for Carol and those who will be treating her.  She is really quite a special lady and a really good friend.

I had a 3rd degree block that required a pacemaker implant. Once it's adjusted you seldom even think about it and you feel as healthy as before. But she has my prayers.
