Steve,   I personally and I believe MPMTA  would like to see last year’s actions repeated  and done in more depth as needed with additional peoplepower, especially with an emphasis on ALEC. What the group did last year was spectacular and unprecedented.

Rich Harisay would like to focus on ALEC , we are educating our group now and are hoping to work with your group. We have not made specific plans I know of but Rich will chime in if the has something tentative. Of course we want to work with those in OSO who are interested.  I was just thinking yesterday id we should plan a kick off Rally at the start of the legislative session about the time of the CU anniversary, right? and if we will be able this year to again get the proposed bills early in the process.  If there is a bit of an outline by next Monday we can present to our Steering committee. Kirk, Rich, and I belong  so we are a good start.

I believe I can say that Kirk is devoted the coalition effort primarily, Rich to anti Alec, I do education with Rich, data base management, and  basic  membership coordination. We have a new member whom is interested in research, this may be right up his alley. I’ll ask.

The others will correct my impressions if wrong.

The agenda should include actually achieving campaign finance reform by having the Legislature refer this measure to voters:

AMENDING THE OREGON CONSTITUTION TO ENSURE VALIDITY OF INITIATIVES OR REFERRALS LIMITING CONTRIBUTIONS AND/OR EXPENDITURES IN OREGON POLITICAL CAMPAIGNS AND/OR REQUIRING DISCLOSURE OF FUNDING SOURCES IN POLITICAL ADS

Note: The change to the existing Oregon Constitution is shown. New language is in bold.

 JOINT RESOLUTION

Be it resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Oregon:

PARAGRAPH 1. The Constitution of the State of Oregon is amended by creating a new Section 25 to be added to and made a part of Article II.

No provision of this Constitution shall impair voter-enacted laws:

(1)limiting contributions or expenditures, from any source, to influence the outcome of any election, or

(2)requiring that the true sources of those contributions or expenditures be identified to the public and be prominently disclosed in communications funded by those contributions or expenditures.

Such laws enacted by the voters of any county, municipality or district shall not reduce, but may supplement, the requirements of such laws enacted by statewide initiative or referral.

PARAGRAPH 2. The amendment proposed by this resolution shall be submitted to the people for their approval or rejection at the next regular general election held throughout this state.

I notice that the pastebin agenda does not include any actual accomplishment of campaign finance reform.

I am glad you have picked up on the Public Lobbyist idea I have been trying to implement.  It needs just a few computer-literate persons to implement.  They must also have the fortitute to stand up to the committee chairs who will attempt to not allow testimony by means of the Public Lobbyist.

There are a few of us in Occupy Salem who are getting ready to be active in the legislature during the session. We haven't focused on tactics yet but we are ready to be an ongoing presence there.

Hi All!

I'd like to invite you all to join a new Google Group called the Oregon Legislative Response Network.   In accordance with previous discussions, it was felt that a group was needed to share research and analysis on bills, and what's going on in committee hearings and other goings-on during the state legislative session.  We can also use the group as a forum to discuss, plan and organize actions for/against specific legislation.

So, if you're interested in joining, please follow this link:

In solidarity,

I would love to be a part of the new google group.

We're working on a Citizen's Lobby Center here in Salem to be staffed each day with volunteers tracking specific legislation.  Basically, folks that can be boots on the ground if need be.

Unfortunately, your link tells me I must be invited.  If you could add me, I'd greatly appreciate it!
