Under the annual-sessions measure that voters approved in 2010, the first three days will be in an organizational session not counted against the maximum 165 days allowed for lawmakers to meet in an odd-numbered year. Lawmakers will be sworn in, committees will organize and bills will be introduced.
Lawmakers then break will until Feb. 4. The deadline for bill introductions with the secretary of the Senate or the chief clerk of the House is Feb. 21.
There are internal deadlines to move bills.
Most committees must schedule “work sessions” on bills they plan to advance by April 8, and have such sessions by April 18 on bills in their chamber of origin. If bills pass their chamber of origin, committees in the second chamber must schedule work sessions on those bills by May 20 and move bills by May 31.
--this gives us an idea of the deadlines we're working with for the state resolution, as well as any other bills we're advocating for. The big takeaway for me is that we have to start watching the committees right away starting on the 14th....
