Canyou post the configure/autogen command you used and the full outputs of those commands? Make sure your properly building the wayland version (which should take care of not installing X11 components like libwnck) and not the X11 version.
If you're trying to run two concurrent versions of xfce4-panel, you're going to run into alot of problems. If not, is there any reason you didn't install to your default prefix and libdirs so that all the libraries can be properly found?
I did remove xfce4-panel version 4.18.2 before I attempted to install this newer version. I didn't purposely install to /usr/local/bin. that's just where 'make install' put everything. Sounds like I need to specify a prefix then?
There's something wrong with your environment, making GTK think you're on X11 when you're not. X11 code paths (including wnck) can be disabled at compile time, but you don't have to, as they're also protected at runtime. I'm afraid that even with --disable-x11 you'll still have problems. That said, it may be worth testing to get a better idea of the problem.
This project also contains the code to build and deploy xfce-build to the[xfce-build area on Docker Hub]( -build/).This container is the build environment used by Xfce to build the various projects. It can also be used as your own build environment as follows:
The [CI folder](ci/) contains the build_project.yml template for building the variousXfce projects, as well as supporting scripts such as `build_libs.sh` which handlesbuilding any needed dependencies. This helps us avoid repeating the same buildcode in each project.
For Xfce 4.20, the plan is, to add preliminary support to Wayland to core components without losing X11 support. This doesn't mean that by the next major release an Xfce session on Wayland will offer all existing features, but we hope it will be minimally usable. We also intend to continue refining our applications to work acceptably on Wayland (those that already work or can be made to work with low effort).
It is not clear yet which Xfce release will target a complete Xfce Wayland transition (or if such a transition will happen at all).Below is a list of larger tasks which would need to be done in some way for such a transition to occur.
Wayland does not specify a native interface for the compositor for taking screenshots and it looks like it never will. We decided to use wlroots' screencopy protocol because that's probably what our compositor will support.
At the moment only Entire Screen screenshots are supported (xfce4-screenshooter!52), Rectangle Selection will be implemented next but Active Window is going to be much trickier, perhaps we'll need a custom protocol for our compositor to take care of that.
If we want to support compositors that don't implement the protocol above, we have to add DBus Support for org.freedesktop.portal.Screenshot. This however is not planned and it's unlikely we'll ever fully support other compositors.
Regarding the version to test: master, or latest dev release would be best, though latest stable release as well will do. Currently there is not much difference for most components. If you don't test master, best add info on which version you tested.
It is absolutely crucial to subscribe to and read the latest Whonix news category 'important-news' to stay in touch with ongoing developments. This way users benefit from notifications concerning important security advisories, potential upgrade...
After that I ran the upgrade stated above with no success however a box popped up telling me to install the packages listed in my last post. I installed them and ran it again but there are zero upgrades available. So I tried installing the newest kernel manually and it seems to finish but upon reboot I still only have kernel 4.19.0-8 installed.
January 2023 was quite busy for the Xfce developers as they kicked off the development cycle of the next major release of the desktop environment, Xfce 4.20, which will finally bring Wayland support. As expected, the Xfce 4.20 development cycle takes place under the Xfce 4.19 umbrella, and several components are already available for early adopters.
But January 2023 also brought many updated apps and plugins, starting with two updates of the Thunar file manager up to version 4.18.3. These improved the bulk renamer to remember the last active mode, added support for properly handling resident plugins, and fixed several bugs to prevent a rare crash when closing the app or after closing windows.
The Xfce Screenshooter screenshot utility (xfce4-screenshooter) also received several updates during January, up to version 1.10.3, which fixed capture of CSD windows, fixed active window and region capture modes, added support for saving the preferences of the panel plugin, and added a preview of the selected file in the save dialog.
The Xfce Panel (xfce4-panel) has been updated to version 4.18.1, a release that fixes scrolling through window buttons and group button visibility, fixes sync timeout for the clock applet, and addresses a bunch of issues for the tasklist applet.
Also released in January 2023 is Thunar Shares Plugin 0.3.2, which lets you quickly share a folder using Samba from Thunar, Xfce Datetime Plugin 0.8.3, which shows the date and time in the panel, and Xfce Whisker Menu Plugin 2.7.2, which provides an alternate menu for the Xfce desktop environment. All these releases contain various minor bug fixes and updated translations, but the new Whisker Menu version makes use of Thunar to add launchers to the desktop.
Last but not least, the xfce4-notifyd notification daemon for Xfce received three updates in January, up to version 0.7.2, which brought support for notification sounds, an option to hide the panel button when there are no unread notifications, the ability to disallow certain apps to send critical notifications, a context menu that allows individual known application deletion, the ability to exclude specific applications from the log, a redesigned known apps panel, and Wayland support.
The underlying problem is currently unclear to me so finding a solution is difficult.
Since you already tried different distros, did you also try one without Gnome, e.g. xfce? Which distros did you try so far?
Dnes by měla vyjt Fedora 29. Varianty s LXQt a Xfce ale doraz o něco později.
