Hi All - our second message ever to this group,

Here is the ASQ RD webinar email announcement for October. Please let
others that may be interested know about one or more of these FREE
webinar events.

Cheers,

Fred

There are three ASQ RD webinar events in October. We are also
interested in what you would like to learn about in these events - let
us know what topics and/or speakers you would like to have included
(Fred f...@asqrd.org).

Accelerated Testing in Product Development (加速试验在产品开发中的运用)

To Register for the webinar. Go to
https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/946967160

PRESENTER: Dr. Loon Ching Tang (董润楨博士)
Professor, National University of Singapore

DATE: Wednesday, October 12, 2011
11:00 am - Noon, Beijing Time
(Tuesday, Oct 11, 2011, 8-9pm US Pacific Time)

DESCRIPTION (presented in Mandarin):
In product development, some form of reliability testing is used for
design release and/or comparing design alternatives. In view of
limited lead time and high reliability requirement, these tests are
“accelerated” by testing products at higher stresses or harsher
environmental conditions involving higher temperature, voltages and
humidity so as to increase the susceptibility of failure. The typical
challenge for engineers is to figure out how to design such tests;
i.e. the test condition, sample size, etc, so that the results can
lead to meaningful analysis, statistically and technically, from which
follow-up actions result in reliability improvement. Here, we present
a general roadmap in developing an appropriate test plan for new
products development and/or design modifications. The roadmap is
discussed in the context of 3 real life examples involving miniature
hard disk, a systems iron and split unit air-conditioners.

Understanding and Making Better Use of Availability

To Register for the FREE webinar.
Go to https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/793334912

PRESENTER: Jorge Luis Romeu

DATE: Thursday, Oct 13, 2011, Noon - 1:00 pm US EDT

Learning Objectives:

1.Understanding Availability from a practical standpoint

2.Calculating some simple Availability ratings

3. Practical and economic ways of enhancing Availability

DESCRIPTION: Availability is the (Probabilistic) performance measure
concerned with assessing a maintained system or device with respect to
its ability for being used when needed. We will overview how
Availability is measured under its different (inherent, achieved and
operational) definitions, via several methods (theoretical and
practical), using both statistical and Markov approaches. We will also
overview the case where, implementing redundancy, we allow the system
to operate in a degraded state. Finally, we will discuss ways of
improving Availability. And we will provide numerical examples and
comparisons of the cases presented..

Joint ASQ RD RMSP Webinar Series: Understanding and Performing Level
of Repair Analysis on Complex Systems

To Register for the webinar.
Go to https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/236272553

PRESENTER: Marc Banghart
Reliability Engineer, Wyle Incorporated

DATE: Friday, October 14, 2011
11:00 am - Noon, US EDT

DESCRIPTION:
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the role of LORA in the Systems Engineering Process
- Understand LORA Optimization Algorithms
- Understand Availability Constraint
- Understand Economic and Non-Economic Analysis
- Understand sensitivity analysis

Abstract:
Level of Repair Analysis (LORA) is an analytical methodology used to
determine where an item will be replaced, repaired, or discarded based
on cost considerations and operational readiness requirements. For a
complex engineering system containing thousands of assemblies, sub-
assemblies and components (organized into several levels of indenture
and with a number of possible repair decisions), LORA seeks to
determine an optimal provision of repair and maintenance facilities to
minimize overall life-cycle costs. Logistics personnel examine not
only the cost of the part to be replaced or repaired but all of the
elements required to make sure the job is done correctly. This
includes the skill level of personnel, tools required to perform the
task, test equipment required to test the repaired product, and the
facilities required to house the entire operation. This course will
cover the basics of performing a LORA and will serve as an
introduction to advanced LORA topics.
