Hi Al,

I saw in one of the post that sadly Michal has passed away. The
development of the library has also stopt and also his legacy :(.

Because ASP classic is still used everywhere, I was wondering if there
where people hew are have the knowledge and time to work on this
library. Myself I worked the past 7 / 8 years with asp code and i have
build / collected a lot of functions / classes that can be integrated
with the Michal library.

So if there are more volunteers, we can keep up this very well build
library.

some ideas.

Integration with:
xml manipulation
xml viewing (combining xsl and parameters)
webform class (generated webforms)
official integration with Jquery
date time class
cookie class
etc

- think the jquery intergation would be a must nowadays
- most probably forms handling/validation (ajaxed-server side) would
be a great addon but if memory is good there we're already some
methods and class for this partialy
- some more examples - real world, especialy with the jquery
incorporated witch would open the world to a whole new world, even (or
also for) classic asp
- a dedicated website and some more examples

- two/three very dedicated coders/writers about classic ASP and all
this

if you can handle all this i think probably you did find a usefull
goal or occupation for coming months )))
i too think classic asp is not death

I have interest in asp-ajaxed project. I'm commited some code to ajaxed, and worked with ASP for 5 years.

I guess we need a leader to the project, and access to asp-ajaxed repository and website. Sometime ago I asked here about it, and I received a reply to ask to fabien about these access. I never asked him about it.

HI Guys,

I used to work with michal, he was a very good friend of mine. I was
early part of this project, and helped him a little bit, when we
extracted bits from another framework we had been working on. Also
mostly done by michal! This was some years ago, and since, I have not
done any classic ASP stuff! :-( I am also moving toward ASP.NET MVC
and can not see yself getting back into classic asp any time soon. I
think now would be good for someone to take this further.

I know his family and friends, and can try to help support you guys
get things organised. I do hope that someone else can take over?

Practical examples would be very helpful. I once installed the library
and couldn't figure out what to do with it.

I have the site ClassicASPreference.com -- nope it isn't pretty, but i
would be willing to set up a folder and ftp there for the use of
ajaxed volunteers. I would otherwise remain hands-off.

I'm not among the best of coders but do like Classic ASP very much and
would be willing to accept specific assignments from a development
team.

Hi all,

Sorry that I dit not react sooner, but I became a dad a lit bit sooner
dan aspected :). So the last few weeks where very hectic for me.

Okay the project proposal.

-->Main idea: build a script library with a lot of day to day usefull
functions and some practical examples (something like the jQuery
library and the jQuery ui)

The Ajaxed library has a lot of very usefull functions and has a very
nice logic (like the jQuery engine) ( I got something similar build,
but not as neetly put together ).

I would like to propose to start with free webspace like google code
or something like that.

I do not have any experince with online projects, but I have extensive
experince working within a group. If nobody has any objections, I
would like to take the lead, .

@Dai bok can you help me with some of the more practical things like
the vb-script code (Is the code that michal released all the code?).

Regards

Bunkerbuster

Hello everyone,

Some do not know me, my name is Juan Carlos Pulido, my nic is artjc. I
tacitly collaborate on some ideas together with Michal. At the
beginning of the year (2010) i agreed to manage the forum and also a
follow-up to this excellent project.

I want you to excuse my English language, I'm at a level worse than
that which had Michal.

I was pleased the initiative they have taken some members to give more
life to Ajaxed, i'm with them and believe we can make quite the same.

The Forum is heard much the option to change in Ajaxed, Prototype by
jQuery, it is interesting but we can talk, not to change but to
implement. Michal's philosophy was just to live in harmony with
software solutions. In the end what we really do is create solutions
regardless of the technology.

I have developed Ajaxed for my personal work, i have created solutions
for example to validate data on the client side, together with
Validator for Prototype by Andrew Tetlaw (http://tetlaw.id.au/view/
javascript/really- easy-field-validation), or adapt such an option to
place a prefix to the tables in a database (database class) and
specified in the file config.asp, as it operates in CMS's like Joomla,
and others more.

I made changes to other class:
- AjaxedPage
- Datatable
- DropDown
- JSON
- Library
- Localization
- StringOperations

etc.

I will make a clear description of these changes to make them for your
consideration and reach agreement on a new version of Ajaxed with the
blessing of Michal.

Regards,

artjc ;-)

Hi,

Congrats Bunkerbuster, I am expecting my fisrt child some time in the
next week, so wish me luck.

@bunkerbuster
What kind of help would you be looking for? If you have a good
understanding of OO, and vb-script, it should be easy to get used to,
michal wrote very good quality code.

@the code
Michal did most of the code. In fact, is is based on a library he
produced in 2001-2002 with some other friends. I guess asp Ajaxed can
be regarded as a
slimed down (Browser Independent) version of the gab librabry (this
used to be closed source). The gab library was fatter and more suited
to intranet applications and worked with IE only! AAARGGG!. I have not
looked at the code base for some time now (2+ years), and I am not
sure how much it has changed? @artjc :maybe you know more!

I know michal had help from a few people here on the forum, and work
collegues and friends etc. But regarding the law, I think you could do
what you want with the source code, as long as you keep it open
source, and don't infringe copyright (this will still be held by
michals family) it should be fine. The law in the USA is different
from EU, so be careful if you want to "sell" asp Ajaxed as a product.
We once had a problem with a guy who was trying to sell asp ajaxed
clone.

@artjc
Your english is fine! Michal started another project, that uses ajaxed
(we were supposed to wrok together on it), I am going to take that
over, and famialrize myself with the framework again, so I should be
able to help with bug fixes/feature/enhancements.

@Dai bok, thanks it is my first one to, the only thing I can say enjoy
the ride :)

First of all, I want the code to be open sourced, and because the code
is already open sourced, I agree that it would not be any problem if
we can use the code to evolve (I have a legal background).

I have done a lot in asp the past 7 to 8 years (worked for companys
like Vodafone and Hp) and programmed complete cms and document
management systems in ASP so Vb-script is not a big problem.

ps with OO you mean Object Orientated? That would not be a problem,
but classic asp is never designd to be native OO.

So if I read the code correctly (correct me if I am wrong), Micheal as
came up with a solution for nesting classes (what is normally
impossible), and that is a really neet feature :).

@artic any help would be very nice.

ps is there any project material? Like technical designs, goals?

yes, vb script is procedural, not strickly OO, but you can come up
with nice/interesting models/design, derive from Multiple abstract
classes, "special" properties, we had some interesting debates about
architecture and OOD(object oriented design) . LOL - good old
days....

A little more history:
Basically what we (He) did was, tried to imitate asp.net 1.1 in some
form, take controls for example, specifically with the datagrid
(asp.net) --> drawtable -(gablibrary ) ---> datatable (asp-ajaxed).
finally he landed up with asp-ajaxed using prototype. Michal was in
touch with the guy who wrote scriptaculous - Thomas Fuchs- who also
lives in vienna at the time - he was using prototype. asp-ajaxed was
just a way of reviving old clasic asp apps. add a little css and some
xmlhttp request, and you web1 product in now web2.0 with out having to
compile!

Anyway, the thing with what michal did was make development quick and
easy, you could build prototypes in days. We were pushing out new
products, and supported many other products, while the asp.net guys
took ages to do what we could easily do!

As for his goals, I guess it was to DRY (don't repeat Yourself) Think
and be Lazy. thing is, we were just trying to keep classic asp alive,
because asp.net was taking us away from HTML/CSS/JAVASCRIPT. We wanted
control over the html produced, and thats why we treid to keep these
libraries going.
Its a long story....

Will keep an eye on the group, and hopefully start h4cking some asp-
ajaxed sites soon!

Hi to all...

It has been quite a while since i entered the group, and the news
about Michael are truly sad. :(

It is great to see that there is people with the idea of continue this
project, and i just want to tell you that if there is any way i can
help, i will.

Now, about using JQuery, it might be a good idea to be able to choose
between Prototype and JQuery, since both are heavily used nowadays. In
the end, we can just vote for one if having both is too much
trouble :P

About giving more ideas for the framework, some time ago i saw another
Classic ASP framework that might have some interesting ideas. It can
be found here: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/asp/ClassicAspFW02.aspx

Regards.
