EEG studies show that observing errors in one's own or others' actions triggers specific electro-cortical signatures in the onlooker's brain, but whether the brain error-monitoring system operates according to graded or discrete rules is still largely unknown. To explore this issue, we combined immersive virtual reality with EEG recording in participants who observed an avatar reaching-to-grasp a glass from a first-person perspective. The avatar could perform correct or erroneous actions. Erroneous grasps were defined as small or large depending on the magnitude of the trajectory deviation from the to-be-grasped glass. Results show that electro-cortical indices of error detection (indexed by ERN and mid-frontal theta oscillations), but not those of error awareness (indexed by error-Positivity), were gradually modulated by the magnitude of the observed errors. Moreover, the phase connectivity analysis revealed that enhancement of mid-frontal theta phase synchronization paralleled the magnitude of the observed error. Thus, theta oscillations represent an electro-cortical index of the degree of control exerted by mid-frontal regions whose activation depends on how much an observed action outcome results maladaptive for the onlooker. Our study provides novel neurophysiological evidence that the error monitoring system maps observed errors of different magnitude according to fine-grain, graded rather than all-or-none rules.
Avatar Architettura is multy-disciplinary italian office for architecture and industrial design founded by Nicola Santini and Pier Paolo Taddei. It is an office with over ten years of experience in design services, strengthened it's professionalism in guaranteeing environmental mainstreaming for all developed projects from concept to final realization. In order to ensure the highest environmental and economic performances of its projects works in partnership with the think-tank IHDNETWORK, a group of Natural Resource Management and Green Technology practitioners and academics working worldwide in the field of Environmental management under the direction of its founder, Jacopo Monzini.
This result has been obtained by the research team coordinated by Daniele Pucci, Principal Investigator of the Artificial and Mechanical Intelligence (AMI) Lab at IIT in Genova. One of their research goals is to obtain humanoid robots that play the role of avatars, namely a robotic body that acts in place of humans without substituting them but allowing them to be where they cannot.
An advanced software architecture, designed by the IIT researchers, controls and manages the interconnection between the iCub3 robot and the iFeel system. Also, this software infrastructure allows the integration of commercial wearable technologies, which complete the iCub3 avatar system. For instance, the remote user walks in-place inside a virtual-reality platform that allows him to move the upper-body freely.
Instead of going to the tailor to have a suit made to measure, we can"send" our avatar. Instead of taking the measurements to order ajacket online, we can try it on the avatar. The platform developed byIgoodi actually tells us if that garment fits our body and advises uson the right size, identifying any critical points. And if we wish wecan even become models and walk the digital catwalks of Paris, Milanand New York in the metaverse.
The difference with the Second Life avatars of the early 2000s,conceived as our alter egos and protagonists of another life to beconsumed entirely online, is the goal and functionality of these 3Dsoul mates. They are completely identical to us and reveal all ourmeasurements, from the wrist to that of the armpits, from the ankle tothe shoulders, from the elbow to the wrist to the waist and knee."These avatars are smart bodies, with our exact anthropometricmeasures, measurements previously reserved for medicine, fitness, fashion or education. They can be used to create 3D braces or formapping moles of in remote tailoring ", says the founder of Igoodi. The name of the product is self explanatory: a real self, "i", whichis fine, "good", thanks to the digital "i": Igoodi.
To get your avatar you have to make an appointment in one of the twoItalian showrooms: in Milan, in via Negri, or in Turin, at theLingotto, at the Green Pea building, a green retail park dedicated tothe theme of respect. The scan costs 69 Euro.
Within 72 hours, at most, the avatar will be ready in the app with adataset including all body measurements and relevant size table, wellness index with percentage of fat and lean mass, indication ofbody shape and related style suggestions and clothing to enhance one'sfeatures. From that moment on it will be possible to start using itfor some of the features described above or to purchase products onthe e-commerce app dedicated to avatars.
"In this way it is possible to buy the perfect garment, avoidingreturns and safeguarding the planet", underlines Berlusconi, nephew ofthe former Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, and the son ofhis brother Paolo. Furthermore digital prototyping on avatar modelscan allow a concrete environmental advantage in terms of time, materials and energy saved. "Today's young talents are increasinglyusing digital prototyping," adds Berlusconi.
The Rai Virtual LIS platform allows messages to be conveyed in LIS Italian Sign Language by means of avatars created in 3D computer graphics, in order to provide deaf signing people with new opportunities and service scenarios in contexts where human LIS interpreters are not provided.
They ran through physical streets and parks to intercept and capture Pokemon Go characters, part of an augmented reality mobile game that launched in 2016. Many took the edge off pandemic lockdown by playing with real-world friends over gaming platforms. On Roblox, dressing up avatars is old hat.
Boson Protocol, a technology company, is bridging the gap between the metaverse and physical world with a new venture designed to allow consumers to purchase fashion NFTs for their avatars from a platform, Decentraland. NFTs, in turn, will contain vouchers redeemable for corresponding real-world items. The project, announced Wednesday, is expected to launch in two months.
In another example of how fast this space is moving, the IMVU metaverse on Wednesday launched a marketplace featuring digital fashion as wearable NFTs for avatars on the social platform. The looks, previewed in a recent digital fashion show, include a Black Lives Matters patchwork shirt dress, I Love NY souvenir hoodie and a pink camouflage bubble jacket, each a unique NFT that will be auctioned off over the next 30 days, with bids opening at $100.
Nunamaker is principal investigator and director of the BORDERS consortium, which is headed by the UA. Derrick, who entered the doctoral program in MIS at the UA after working for a defense contractor, is developing his dissertation around the animated avatar that interacts with users through the kiosk.
"The current version of the avatar is a first cut; it's not a perfect design," he said. "We want to see how people respond to avatars of different ages, ethnicities, voices, hair colors, demeanors. My dissertation used gender and demeanor as a starting point."
Derrick tested user response to a smiling female face, a smiling male face, and neutral versions of each: "We measured testers' reactions to the avatars, looking at areas including trustworthiness, likability, and power/dominance."
"This finding has important implications for future screening practices," Derrick said. "For example, human agents may select different avatars based on the individual being screened. Cultural considerations are also significant and must be taken into account."
Join us for an upcoming webinar to delve into the fascinating world of 3D scanning and designing metahumans! We will demonstrate the creative process behind designing an avatar based on actual human body scans.
Remember the iCub? It is a humanoid robot that can be used for teleoperation and telexistence applications. The latest version is bigger and has more advanced features. The below video from the Italian Institute of Technology shows the iCub3 avatar system in action.
From here, you can preview your avatar to better understand how it will sound and look in motion, and test different languages. To do so, hover over the avatar and select the Play button, as shown below.
At the preview avatar stage, you cannot alter the script that the avatar narrates. This functionality exists to showcase how your selected avatar will look and sound in motion. You can create your own script when creating your video.
Please note that from time to time, some of our avatars may be permanently removed from the platform and replaced with newer ones. We strongly recommend using our Custom Avatar or WebCam Avatar offering if you want to build your brand around a specific avatar. This will guarantee access to that specific avatar longterm.
If an avatar you have used is no longer available, you will notice it is no longer accessible within your project. However, you can still use your video by replacing the avatar with another one from the vast selection that is still available, by follow the steps in section 3 below.
There are two ways to select an avatar. Once you are satisfied with your choice, follow the steps mentioned above and click on the Create video with this Avatar button. This will redirect you to the Synthesia creation page, where your selected avatar will be pre-populated on your scene.
In this example, we have selected Start blank. This will redirect you to the Synthesia creation page. From there, click on the Avatar button located in the top menu to select your preferred avatar, as shown below.
To change the current Avatar, you will need to select the Avatar in the scene. This will display an outline of the avatar and the Replace Avatar option will be displayed on the menu to the right-hand side.
