PromoTix allows you use Blackmagic Web Presenter to create professional looking broadcasted events that you can stream online. Just enter the RTMP streaming keys provided by PromoTix to your Blackmagic Web Presenter software and add ticketing for your attendees to monetize your live stream.

Shortly after the announcement, I received a package containing the Blackmagic ATEM Television Studio HD, Blackmagic Web Presenter and the HyperDeck Studio Mini. So, this is a quick first look the ATEM Television Studio HD and the Web Presenter.

YouTube Live requires an encoding software package. My favorite of the streaming, encoding and production packages is Telestream's Wirecast, but Blackmagic products have compatibility issues with Wirecast at the moment. Telestream has promised a quick fix.

The first attempt resulted in a frantic email to Blackmagic tech support. There was no audio coming through the HDMI port. But before I even received an answer, I learned an arcane Mac fact, which I suggested to BMD that it include in the product FAQ.

In order to output Mac system audio via HDMI, you first need to select System Preferences ->Sound->Output and choose Blackmagic Web Presenter from the drop down. Next, however, you need to click the Sound Effects tab in the Sound Preference Panel and choose the Web Presenter from the output drop down menu. And this needs to be re-selected every time you start a new Web Presenter session.

This $995 device is Blackmagic's latest entry in the ATEM switcher line. Unlike the earlier version, which was strictly a rack unit controlled only by host computer or optional ($5000) physical switcher, the Television Studio HD has actual buttons on the front for switching sources.

TV studio cameras have made a large leap forward with the addition of two new Blackmagic Design cameras: Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Plus and Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pro. If your goal is to stream on the Web, then the Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K is the way to go.

The Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pro is identical to the Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Plus except for its 12G-SDI outputs, 10G Ethernet connection, XLR audio inputs, and the PGM (Program) button. Pressing the PGM button displays the return feed on the LCD. Facing the front of the camera, the right side has an HDMI Out, 12G-SDI Out, SDI In, 10GigE, and two 12V inputs (one being a 4-pin). The left side is topped by the two USB-C 3.1 inputs, two XLR audio inputs, a five-pin intercom port, and connector microphone in and headphone output.

If your goal is to stream live, you can attach a camera via the SDI input of the Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K. The rackmountable 5.51x6.90-inch unit does all of the work. High-definition video inputs from 720p, 1080i, 1080p, and 2160p at eight different frame rates may be streamed via an Ethernet connection using Real Time Messaging Protocol to Twitter, Twitch, Skype, YouTube Live, Facebook Live, Microsoft Teams, Wowza Streaming Engine, and Open Broadcaster.

As each actor introduced him or herself, the Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Plus was live capturing a head-to-toe long shot. When their monologue began, the image was switched to the Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pro for the MCU. When the monologue was completed, the actor would reintroduce themselves and we would switch back to the wide shot.

The Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pro with its SDI outputs functioned perfectly with our Roland Switcher if we had wanted to use just one camera with our existing switcher in the control room.rInstead of having the technical director isolated in our control room, we preferred to have him be part of the action in the TV studio and the ATEM Mini Pro was a better solution. Because the ATEM Mini Pro accepts only HDMI inputs, we used those outputs on both cameras.

Our studio has three pedestal-mounted 3 CCD 1080i $65,000 cameras with a 4-inch black and white viewfinder connected via a fiber optic cable to our Roland Switcher. Without the tally lights on top of each camera functioning, it was always difficult to determine which camera was live. For an investment of around $6,000, our studio could have three tripod-mounted Blackmagic Design cameras with 7-inch color viewfinders, the ability to shoot in 4K, operator-controlled touch screens, and functioning tally lights. No matter how bad your math skills may be, $6,000 is much less than $195,000!

Note: Since I wanted to stream from our university, I contacted our IT Department to allow the Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K access to our internet. Without their assistance, our firewall would not have accepted this new device.

Depending on your specific needs (SDI capabilities) for a camera, both the Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Plus and Blackmagic Studio Camera Pro 4K are identical internally as well as using a touchscreen to adjust settings.

...until you leave it on 24/7 and it dies prematurely.The LED on the front of this unit is intermittently flashing on and the device isn't being detected in Windows.

DisassemblyI removed the 8 countersunk PZ2 screws on the sides and removed the top cover. The fan is bolted to the lid, so unplug it carefully before removing the lid fully.

With mains power connected I took great care in probing the 12V PSU output with a voltmeter.I saw that as the LED flashes on, the voltage jumps up, and when the LED goes off, the supply drops.

The most likely cause for this is power supply failure, although that isn't guaranteed. It's possible that the circuit consuming power is causing the short circuit/overload protection of the power supply to engage. Luckily not in this case.

After removing mains power from the device,I removed the front plate from the case, held in with another 4 PZ2 countersunk screws.

To remove the PCB is a tricker ordeal. Unfortunately it's a must, to be able to remove parts from the PSU, you must be able to access the bottom of it.To access the bottom of the PSU you must remove it which requires access to the bottom of the main PCB.Unplug all cables from the device, including power!Remove the 3 T10 self tapping black screws from the XLR and RCA connectors on the rear.Remove the 3 nuts and internal tooth lock washers from the SDI/BNC connectors.Remove the 5.5mm Nyloc nut and the earthing jumper near the IEC C14 inlet and unplug the mains connector from the PCB.Remove the 4 T10 pan head screws securing the PCB to the case.

Carefully remove the PCB without damaging any components on the bottom. Look through the hole in the side of the case for assistance. The first time I did this, I knocked two multilayer ceramic capacitors off but luckily they weren't damaged and so could be reaffixed with some flux and patience.

Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K is outfitted with an upgraded Ultra HD resolution H.264 encoder for live streaming in native Ultra HD. The device features a compact design that includes a 12G-SDI input with downconverter, so customers can select to stream in 1080p HD or 2160p Ultra HD resolutions. Like previous generations of the technology, Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K simulates a USB webcam when connected to computers; and the USB webcam feature supports 1080p HD or 2160p Ultra HD resolutions.

Users need only connect an SDI video source such as a live production switcher or a camera, then connect to the internet via the built-in Ethernet connection. For redundancy, may also stream by connecting a 5G or 4G Apple or Android mobile device to use mobile data. Blackmagic Web Presenter will auto detect when a phone is connected and switch its internet connection to use it. Customers can select Ethernet or phone priority, which makes phone internet backup fully automatic.
