At the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition
(IMECE)
The Second ASME International Undergraduate Research and Design Exposition will be held at the 2013 ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition (IMECE) in San Diego, California. The Student Expo will provide engineering undergraduate students with a professional technical forum for presenting their research, design projects, and other engineering solutions and endeavors to top researchers and scientists from academia, industry and government, prospective employers, entrepreneurs, graduate schools, and potential faculty advisors.
Each participant must be a student who is enrolled as an undergraduate in a baccalaureate, associate engineering, or engineering technology degree program at the time of abstract submission. Students who have already graduated (but were students at time of submission) are eligible.
The presentation format for the Expo will be poster presentation; the posters may be supplemented with other visuals, devices or products, when appropriate, subject to the approval of the organizers. Initial submission should be a 400-word abstract.
The entries can be made under either of these categories:
· Undergraduate research projects: judged on originality, technical soundness, and correct interpretation of results.
· Undergraduate design projects: judged on the application of sound engineering principles and practices toward a design

Competition Rules
1. Each participant must be a student who is enrolled as an undergraduate in a baccalaureate, associate engineering, or engineering technology degree program at the time of abstract submission. Students who have already graduated (but were students at time of submission) are eligible.
2. One student must be listed as the contact author, and all other students as co-authors. The faculty advisor(s) must also be listed as the last co-author(s).
3. Each poster must be presented by at least one presenting author (student not advisor); therefore, a student can be the presenting author only on one abstract/poster entered into the competition, although he/she can be a co-author on more than one.
4. There is a $100 registration fee per participant (not per project.) At least one presenter must be identified for each presentation and pre-register for the conference by August 5, 2013. Failure to do so will result in automatic withdrawal of your submission. Other team members may also register and be part of the presenting team. The fee covers participation to Student Expo for Sunday only. Note that with the EXPO registration, any Sunday Student Expo poster presenter at Congress will receive one year of free ASME Student membership, including ME Magazine. Current members will just be extended an additional year. Beyond that, ASME is not able to underwrite or supplement your travel, registration, or room and board accommodations.
5. The projects will compete based on the posters submitted. The criteria for judging will be sent to the presenting authors upon abstract acceptance. The posters will not be published in the Conference proceedings.
6. No paper entries will be accepted. Anyone submitting a paper will be immediately disqualified from the competition.
