Outstanding Program Award Competition Rules – Revised 12/4/12
(Sponsored by the ASME Knowledge & Communities Sector’s Program & Activities Board’s Local Program Committee)
1. Competition includes unit events conducted from July 1 to June 30 of the following year (coinciding with the ASME program year). The deadline for submitting Outstanding Program Award (OPA) entries is June 30, the end of the program year. The OPA competition will restart each program year.
2. This competition is limited to Sections (their Subsections & Groups) and Affinity Groups. (Other ASME units, such as Technical Divisions or Students Sections are encouraged to develop their own unique OPA competitions).
3. The OPA competition will be in 6 categories: Technical Presentations, Facility or Plant Tours, Professional Development, Social Events, Special Events and Affinity Groups. Refer to the Category Definition page for a detailed description of each category. The OPA Committee reserves the right to switch an entry to another category that more closely fits the entries event characteristics.
4. Sections may enter a join Section/Student Section event as long and the section served in a major way (at least 50% of the planning and operation).
5. Each unit may enter more than one category, but is limited to only one OPA entry per category per year. Units conducting more than one potential outstanding event should pick the best event to enter in the OPA competition for that category.
6. ASME unit may enter an event including other technical societies or social organizations as long as the ASME unit had a major role (at least 50%) in the organization and conduct of the event.
7. Submitting unit member must keep in mind that the purpose of the OPA program is to generate Unit Best Practices for other units to use and the event will be judged on how the entry can help other unit in duplicating the event successfully.
