Front Brake Requirement

Hello,

I wanted to provide everyone with the information our team received in regards to the front brake requirement in the rule book. Our team believed that due to the geometry and weight distribution of our vehicle, the use of a front brake may result in our vehicle tipping forward. As such, we submitted a rule exemption request to see if we could only use a rear brake setup and waive the requirement for a front brake. We received a response from the eHPVC East Head Judge who informed us that >70% of the braking power comes from the front brake, and that no team has been able to pass the brake test with only a rear brake. Due to these reasons, the front brake requirement would not be waived, and we could bring a vehicle with just a front brake or front and rear brakes to competition. We will plan accordingly around this decision, and wanted to post this question and response here in case any other teams had a similar question. Hope this helps!
