Meeting Notice - ASME Gas Turbine Technical Chapter
The Houston area ASME-International Gas Turbine Technical Chapter is dedicated to the design, manufacture, operation, maintenance and business of gas turbine based technologies. Every individual and organization with an interest in this technology is encouraged to participate (ASME membership is not required, but encouraged). Meetings are generally from 6 PM to 9 PM. We welcome everyone. Come as you are, we are a NOMEX/FRC friendly organization!

Meeting Summary:
This presentation gives an introduction to failure analysis and root cause analysis of gas turbines. It also gives a brief introduction to the metallurgical strengthening and damage mechanisms in the superalloys that are part of the hot section in a gas turbine, as well as stainless steels used in compressors. Several case studies will also be presented on how a root cause analysis typically works in the gas turbine industry.

Speaker Biographies:
Oscar Quintero is a Consulting Engineer at M&M Engineering. He has 6 years of experience in root cause analysis, failure analysis, forensic investigations, materials analysis and testing in different industries. Mr. Quintero’s experience includes root cause analyses in gas turbines including GE LM6000, Siemens W501D and W501F, Alstom GT11NM and GT11N2, and Mitsubishi 501FD2; and in steam turbines including GE, Siemens, and Westinghouse turbine generators. Previous to working at M&M Engineering, Mr. Quintero worked at Bell Helicopter in the Accident Investigations Laboratory and at Delphi Automotive Systems performing failure analyses, materials characterization and reverse engineering.
John Molloy, P.E. is a Principal Engineer at M&M Engineering. He has 12 years of experience in root cause analysis, failure analysis, forensic investigations, materials analysis and testing at M&M Engineering. Mr. Molloy’s experience includes root cause analyses and other services in gas turbines including GE 7FA, 7FB, 9FA, 9FB, LM2500, LM6000, Siemens W501D and W501F, Alstom GT11NM and GT11N2, and Mitsubishi 501FD2; and in steam turbines including GE, Siemens, and Westinghouse turbine generators. Previous to working at M&M Engineering, Mr. Molloy worked at Goodrich Aerospace (now part of UTC) performing hot gas path services and materials characterization.
